I just noticed that the bangkokmetro link is for the subway...that's good information! It doesn't seem like you can use the same pass for both though.

the subway and the skytrain operate on different payment systems for some reason...crazy...
buy what you think you will use the most often....the one day ticket is 100 B on the skytrain...normal trips are 35-45 B each one way....so if you use it for 3 single trips per day a day pass is the best bet...they have a monthly pass also which is a real bargain if you use the system often...i think the other passes have been eliminated...the pass is a credit card type thing...you can buy it at any skytrain stop... the subway works off of a token that is slightly larger than the current one pound coin in the UK...i do not know how their pass works or how much it might cost...i find the subway goes to very few places that tourists want to go currently...it is fabulous however and the stations are air conditioned...there is one at the nite market and i think one at the weekend market... currently downtown there are two crossover stations between the two...i find the one at asoke to be the best...the other one has quite a long walk and is near silom and rama IV... during my 30 day stay last spring we only had a pass twice or maybe three times....we find that we use taxis far more often in order to stay cool to the spot we are going to...most skytrain stops are elevated over the street and many do not have escalators so after the climb up you are hot and sweating i find... |
I was in Bkk for 9 nine days recently, and used the Skytrain quite often. I found much more convenient to buy a day pass (100 baht) which aloud me multiple rides all over all day, without having to face a waiting line.
I also used the subway to go to the night market. I could not get a day pass nor a round trip "token"; I don't know if it was because I could not myself understood or if they just don't have it. |

Taking taxis -- really depends on when and where you're going and how big a rush you are in. The heat and humidity really affects me so I use cars whenever I can. Most of the time I can get to anywhere I want to go within Bangkok in 30-45 minutes and that suits me fine. I'm never on a rushed schedule since I'm usually there for 6-10 days and have been there so often I don't have a list of must see tourist sights. There are times of the day that take longer and the days right before christmas can be bad. But generally I don't find it a problem. So yes it takes longer than the skytrain but it's time I don't mind spending to avoid the heat and humidity.
