BKK - Markets Closed Around New Year's

Hi There,
Is it worth planning a trip to Bangkok from Jan. 1st - Jan. 7th? I'm a big shopper. Will the major markets and malls be closed around New Year's?

Thanx!

Shops close for almost nothing in Bkk and certainly not for Dec-Jan which is peak tourist season so don't worry on that score. I don't think u can expect US style discounts on stuff tho so presumably that is not the agenda...

I have found that my jeweler closes for a few days around the new year. I expect there are other stores as well that give their employyes a few days off. If there is somwhere specific you want to buy from, you might check in advance. The big markets and malls are open.
