BKK in the news
This month's edition of Travel and Leisure mag has an article about Asia's hottest city - Bangkok and the famous Calypso Cabaret!
I'll have to look for it on the news stand. Thanks for the tip. I have yet to see the cabaret show. My friends from Germany and I almost went one evening, but then something else came up. Maybe next time? When do you and Olive return to BKK?

We are planing on December 2010 and of course we will catch the Calypso Cabaret again- its a great show- those who go to BKK and miss it are the losers!
Is this another katoey show?
It's the mother of all katoey shows. Tiffany, Alcazar and all the others are off-shoots from it. I'm one of those that fails to see what all the fuss is about, though.
for the month of july there is a very famous ladyboy from texas staring in his debut....initials are BT.....don't miss it!!!
Well the fuss, as you put it, is that it is a very entertaining show at a reasonable cost, the theater is small so mlst seats get a great view. These performers put on a great show- singing dancing, costumes etc. Its entertainment appropriate for all ages. See the show and judge for yourself! Pay no attention to Bob's comments - he's been hanging out at the pool too long!
I saw the katoey show in Pattaya, It was a fantastic, well-done production. The only thing that soured the experience was when the katoeys started spitting venom because we wouldn't tip them all for a photo (we didn't expect them to ask).
Tip them 20 baht next time!
Is this the show that is located in the Asia Hotel? What time does it start, do you need to make reservations, and how much does it cost?
Yes, you can find their website just Google Calypso Cabaret. You can selct your seats and reserve on line and then pay at the box office in the Asia Hotel. Skip the dinner portion- just reserve for the show- $25 which includes one drink. I believe the show start at 8:30 but be there 20 minutes before. The box office is in the lobby of the Asia Hotel (which is connected directly into the skytrain). The theater is on the lower level- stairs just to the right of the box office. Take your camera- pictures during the show allowed. After the show the performers line up for pictures and don't forget to tip them!
Bill- We did tip, but they all came flying over like seagulls looking for scraps. It was pathetic. A great show otherwise..
Mango - yes that would be a problem. They are better behaved at the Calypso. We also saw the Tiffinay show in Pattaya but did not have time for pictures.
