BKK Grande Sukhumvit or Conrad?

Sorry-another hotel question. I have a short layover 12:30am arrival and head back to BKk at 3pm and want a hotel with a nice spa, pool and place to take a walk-like a mall or dept store or street shopping. These are two I'm now considering but leaning towards the Grande-sounds like there is a dept store there too and it looks like a really nice pool/spa. Any advice? TIA

I can think of several hotels that refer to themselves as Grande Sukhumvit. Can you say which one it is you are thinking about?

IMO a Sukhumvit hotel will be more convenient that the Conrad.

Are you thinking of the Sheraton or the Westin? Either would be conveniently located.

I agree with Carol, both are better located for your purposes than the Conrad.

You guys are quick! It's the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.

Great... I'd take Sheraton Grande over the Conrad. Yes, there is shopping nearby, but I think I'd take the skytrain down to either Siam or Chitlom for better selection (or you could walk down there).

Thanks-I'll do some shopping on the way back when I have a full day-just want some exercise, swim and massage before heading back to the airport and the SG looks like it has a beautiful pool and facilities and someplace to walk around.

Good choice!

you can walk right out from the sheraton and get on the skytrain and go in either direction for mall shopping....the emporium shopping area, to the right exiting the hotel, is the closest...

conrad has a small disappointing mall connected to it....

Thanks again!

Oops-one more question, what about RMeridien Plaza Athenee? They have a nice pool and spa too but are there only embassies around it?

rhkkmk Dec 8th, 2008 03:42 PM

the PA would be perfect...great location with several shopping venues right in that neighborhood or nearby...

rooms are very nice too...

PA is available for starwood cash and points also at certain times..

Thanks-I know and it's fewer points and cash and looks like a very nice hotel for a quick layover.

Hi

I stayed at Sheraton on Sukhumwit in June this year and it is a very nice hotel. Here is my review with pictures http://gardkarlsen.com/Sheraton_Gran...kok_review.htm . Conrad also seems nice but every time I have driven past it in a taxi I keep thinking that it looks to be a bit out of the way. Last weekend I stayed at Centara Grand at CentralWorld and that was also very nice :d

I prefere the Sheraton to the PA. If you weren't going to stay at the Conrad, then why stay at the PA? They are 5 minutes apart. SGS is a better location. Pool is nice, but it's small, so don't expect to swim a lot of laps (the backside of the pool has a straight section which you can do this, but unless you're there early in the morning, you might be dodging people as you go.

i found the pool at the sheraton odd also and very crowded...

all of the above are very nice hotels.....the conrad does have a bus to the skytrain btw.....i love the food there...
