BKK and DMK openning date and time.

Just to let everybody know the opening date, for full operation, at both Bangkok airports.

Suvarnabhumi airport will open with full service starting from the 11.00 AM flight on December 5th. The earlier flights will take off from there but you must check in at the Bi Tec convention centre. Be warn that Thai is thinking of cancelling some flights if the number of passengers are too low.

Don Muange airport will open December 4th at 6.00 AM for domestic flights.

Lots of heavily discounted deals from Bangkok Airways and Thai will start launching their campaign next week.

Thanks for that bit of information. Looks like DS and DH are a "go" for next Wednesday. Me, I'm good to "go" a week after that. Yippeeeeee......

But this begs the question, what about the Thai people? Are they going to be more combative with each other than we've every experienced before?

Hanuman, it would help if you could give a source for your information.

The most recent article from The Nation, posted just a few hours ago, says the following:

"Airports of Thailand Plc expects to reopen Suvarnabhumi Airport in 1 week at the earliest and 2 weeks at the latest, said the company's acting president Serirat Prasutanond. He said on Wednesday that the airport could be reopened for full operations only after complete inspection for irregularities, explosives, and readiness of equipment and systems."

Currently, the airport is technically open, at extremely reduced capacity. It will take a while to restore the infrastructure, including stuff such as customs/immigrations, etc.

Rizzuto,

I had lunch with one of the director and the vice president of Thai Airways today and they told me. My mother is stuck in London along with my nephew and niece so I enquired.

Forgot to mention that they did said that the first and business lounges might not be open.

Carol,

Sorry I forgot to answer your question, I've got the flu and I haven't been resting!

I think Thailand will remain peaceful and a great place to visit. In the past any political struggle of such magnitudes ended up with bloody coups and with many deaths. The last coup, 2006, was the first non-violent coup but I would not go into the detail of that event as you probably know it already. What we are seeing now is the role of the Thai courts, especially the supreme court and the constitutional court, in settling disputes or political struggle.

I'm quite happy of the fact that so far the courts have been able to handle the disputes without the intervention of the army. Possibly this could be the way forward for the country.

Thanks Bob. Feeling better and now busy trying to book our own vacation out of Thailand! Our original plan to Hokkaido does not look good as the Ryokan and hotels we originally wanted are all fully booked, waited too long.

Now trying to take advantage of other destinations offered by Bangkok Airways. I've never seen their fare so cheap!
