Birding in April
OK... our itinerary is shaping up. We'll have Pn Heary for the first 2 days of our Cambodia visit, during which we will be going to Tonle Sap lake, and Koh Ker.

There is a wildlife sanctuary just North of Koh Ker. Has anyone been bird watching in that area? If so, what kinds of birds might we see in early April? W arrive in Siem Reap on march 31st.

We did bird watching in conjunction with our trip to Tonle Sap at Prek Toal bird sanctuary. We just continued on past the villages, past the coffins in the trees, for about 1 more hour to the sanctuary. You stop at a floating sort of ranger station about half way there, to pay the entrance fee and see a few exhibits.

We only saw one other boat out there. The birds were amazing. It is rookery type birding, just viewing from the boat. Take binoculars. We are avid birders and go nowhere without ours. No land at all and all of the birds are in trees. One tree could have nearly 1000 cranes, etc. Most every large tree had birds in nests. It was quite a great day!

You can google Prek Toal. It comes up with many websites and there you can find bird lists.

I was under the impreion that Prek Toal is closed in April. We're definitely going to Ang Trapeang Thmor.

We were there in December, but...just read on this site
that "during April and May,incredible concentrations of large waterbirds can be seen around Prek Toal". There is also a bird list, charts and 17 some pages of info. Good birding to you!

Thanks for the excellent PDF link!

It explains why it's unlikely we'll be able to get into the area. commercial fishing barricades and very low water make it difficult to get into.
