Thanks for your report. Glad my own and others were able to help you. Great info about the transit tours in Seoul. Wonder if that is new. We've been in the Seoul airport three times with sleep overs in the transit hotel and would love to take a tour if the opportunity presents itself next time.

Dgunbug, I don't know if the transit tour is new, but I was impressed that they had so many options. And our guide spoke excellent English.
Sweet happening today. My daughter sent me a photo of my granddaughter (age 11) dressed for school today in the Laotian skirt and shawl we brought her, plus an armful of bracelets from the three countries.

And one other thing has helped--Banhup Teh's workflow as introduced in his ebooks. I used h is workflow on some photos of people and they are markedly different and better! I posted them on facebook and will get them up in a week or so for others to see.

Hi Patty
Reading your report for info on Laos, we will be there soon and are staying at Apsara. Will also be trying your restaurant recommendations.
I'm intrigued about the camera packing tip from Hanuman, would you share ?
Thanks for a great read.

I see now that I never answered those last questions. Sartoric, Hanuman suggested I pack my 5D Mark 2 with the 24-105 lens attached, sideways in the center of the bag and the 70-200 f 2.8 huge lens parallel to it on the right hand side, which would be the bottom on the bad when I wear it. The space on the other side of the camera could hold a flash, or other gadgets or lens. I had not even thought of doing it that way. This was in a Lowepro 200AW and it worked beautifully for me. I still pack it that way.

Crellston, I don't have my photos up on phase.com yet, but I did make a book on Blurb and you could page through them on their site. http://www.blurb.com/books/5152389-v...-laos-cambodia That may be more interesting anyway!

Thanks for answering my question Patty. Unfortunately doesn't work with our gear
I'm going to pull out the laptop to look at your book - doesn't seem to work very well with iPad.

I agree dgunbug--books are such great souvenirs from our trips! To be savored over and over again. ANd the thing with my camera bag and gear was just finding a different way to load it than I had traditionally thought. Maybe experiment around, sartorial!

Beautiful photos, laid out brilliantly! I love the way you used the textiles and other displays graphically, playing them against each other. Really well done.
There are several photos with black background - did you drop out the background and photoshop in the black?
You've inspired me to find the time to make my own book!

Thanks progol! I like hearing which parts you like. Actually I did use photoshop to black out some of the backgrounds where there was too much distraction or a lot of black already. One with the little girl was black in the original. An easier way to black out the background, however, is to shoot subjects in a doorway into a building.
If you want to make a book, I think www.blurb.com where I have my books, makes an excellent, professional-looking book and I like the software they use to create it. Just have to download it and watch their brief instructional video. I have made several there.

Patty,
I really do admire your work. I'm a former professional photographer, but now travel with just a small camera and much less emphasis on the photography during my travels. I have to admit, though, that when I see the book you've put together, it does make me wish I spent a bit more effort on my actual pictures.
It looks like you're shooting with purpose - that is, you're able to conceptualize the kind of shots you want so that you have some striking graphic images to put together in your book, as if you were planning out the ways the images will work together.
I started to look at blurb, and it does look great -- I'll have to wait until my work lightens up and I have time to sift through the photos. I wish I could return and take a lot more shots - I have a feel for what I wish I took now!
