.... lol.... Shane, I'll be glad when you take off on this journey! Sounds like it can't happen soon enough.
Have you figured out yet whether your hotels offer free wifi? I'd be depending on that, rather than some expensive plug-in if I were you. Adelphi has not let me down (yet).

I woke up before I finished the "road-block" challenge but my first goal when I drop my bags at the hotel on Sunday night is to complete the mission. So much for straight to bed.
The Birds and Bees in Pattaya have wifi in their restaraunt and conference centre, the Whitehouse in Samui has free internet in their library. As for the 450baht guesthouse in Kachanaburi, I am hopefull of free toilet paper but I think wifi may be asking too much. Dare say there will be an internet cafe close by.

THE place for all IT stuff - would be IT City (Tuk.com) on South Pattaya road - it's a big Pantip-like place. Lots of stalls - phones Laptops - even a Mac dealer.
[Down the side street by IT - City is a French restaurant "Bordeaux" - quite good food and - dare I say it - WINE!]
You can get an Edge modem and SIM for about 3000 baht.
Yes - I expect you know that it's slow, but the coverage is AIS etc and covers just about the whole country. If you use it through a laptop it's not too bad - a little bit faster than dial-up.
In Thailand it's best not to pay any attention to the speeds they claim as they always fall below the mark.
[A year's high speed connection to Hutch is about 12000 baht inc modem - but I doubt that will interest you.]
They are offering the high-speed modems on offer - about 4000 but I'm not sure what pre-pay deals they have.
The Hutch shop is about 20 yards up from IT-City on Pattaya South.
DTAC will also have some pre-pay offers.
For all your internet and mobile stuff look in IT - City - try Telewiz or Jay-Mart they cover most of the phone companies.

Dreams never lie. Dogster does.
It is all a fiction that he is a 'late 50's hard-worn, leather featured, travel weary type'.
He is indeed 'a mid-twenties Brad Pitt lookalike'.
Although, when he dresses up in his special Tomb Raider camo capri pants he looks rather more like Angelina Jolie.
Dream about that tonight.

3 SLEEPS TO GO......THOUGH THE MENTAL PICTURE OF DOGSTER IN A WHITE SILK NIGHT SHIRT, SUSPENDED BY ROPES FROM THE CEILING OF HIS MANSION, FENDING OFF ATTACKERS WHILST PERFORMING ARIEL BALLET,MAY MAKE SLEEP DIFFICULT. ( I hope you have all seen the movie or else that is going to sound very twisted.I plead insanity caused by travel anticipation)

bob, next to the good deal i got when i bought gm for $22, my investment in acer 10" was the best. i am using it now, and i use it for email and watching movies on the plane. it has a good 6+hr battery life. i was able to load 15 movies on the hard drive. it has a webcam. acer cost me $350.
dell is about double the price, but i don't think it has double the features, just the name. likewise for the sony.

I had been looking for a mini notebook for my next Thailand trip, and I bought Acer 8.9 inches last week. However, I felt 8.9 inches is too small, and will not suite for the daily use after the trip. So I returned it yesterday after reading reviews of Asus Eee pc 1000HE.
Today, I just ordered Asus Eee pc 1000HE online.
It is getting more popular, and has the best performance for 10 inches right now.
The company says that it is delivering up to 9.5 hours, and many people experience 7+ hours.
Currently, it seems that they are sold online only. Some stores put the same name on the old Asus 10 inches, and they are not so good.
The new Asus uses Intel Atom N280, and the old one uses Intel Atom N270.

Hi Peter,
Yes, we are all booked in with Tong. She will collect us from our hotel at 7am on Monday morning to begin our journey.
Very restless night last night but no more dreams of dogster or banana pancake vendor challenges.
2 MORE SLEEPS......

I'm just curious... Where in the outback are you? I've made 6 trips to OZ and I've covered most of the areas except the northwestern corner. I've been to all of the capital cities, including Hobart (and Canberra). Some of my best memories are from a 13-day trip on Australian Pacific bus from Alice to Darwin!
I'm invited to a Sydney wedding next March and am thinking quite strongly about trying to make it there.

Hi Carol,
We live in a rural town called Mildura. It is more on the edge of the outback than in the heart of it.
We are situated on the Victorian side of the Murray River (this river is the border of NSW),not far from the South Australian boder as well. We are about 550km from Melbourne and 400 from Adelaide. The town it self holds around 35,000 people with the greater Mildura area servicing about twice that. A 10 minute drive from the centre of town will put you in the desert.
We only moved here 3 years ago and we were originally from suburban Melbourne.
