bicycling Angor Wat

Has anyone taken bicycle tours around Angor Wat?

lcuy Nov 13th, 2007 01:59 PM

We didn't, but I did see a small number of tourists among all the locals on bikes. The roads are pretty good around the temples, but it was really hot, so I was happy to be in a car.

That's the thing. It looks like fun, but I'd be baked by the end of even a half day tour, and then you have to get all the way back to town, which sounds like too much work!

its way too hot....you will ruin your vacation!!!

I agree... just hop in a cab and have them take you to all of the temples. If you spend too long at Angor Wat, your time elsewhere will be limited... or you'll be tired.

i personally would not put all the effort and cash into a visit there without an a/c car and a guide....worth the extra $50 per day.

Most of the road is flat, and if you're setting out earlyish, it's not likely to be too bad. I had a really nice time biking around town and out to the temples. It was sweaty, but I was sweaty pretty much all the time anyway.

If you have very limited time, then don't do it.

If you were going in the cool season and early enough in the morning and if you've got the time and IF YOU LOVE TO BIKE, it would be lovely.

I get up in the mornings and ride all over Siem Reap on my bike and right now, it's lovely. I would not ride for hours on end in April or in the afternoon, anytime of year.

If you do go, wear a face mask; it's dusty and too much of that stuff will give you a nasty cough.

If you are an avid cyclist, I can vouch for this organization
http://www.pepyride.org/

There are other folks who will take you and your bike out there, dump you off and pick you up, so no need to ride back to town.

Love this:

Thank you everyone for your input. We do cycle a lot, in fact when traveling in the united states we usually take our bicycles with us. This is really the way to see D.C. and Key West! We are going to Angor Wat in December, so it shouldn't be prohibitally hot!I'll let ya'll know what we do. Becky
