Bhutan photos, incl. roads for dogster

Dogster's Bhutan saga inspired me to finally go through my photos of Bhutan from 2001, and put some of them up on smugmug (I had way too many). There are three galleries at kwilhelm.smugmug.com/Travel/293904 - festivals, houses (including protective symbols), and people and places.

Dogster - there a few shots of the roads in the east in the people and places gallery that will give you an idea of what you missed.

eks - the unusual decorations, both suspended from the eaves and painted on the walls, are considered to be protective... I particularly liked the ribbons!

errr... I don't think that's smoke ek...

Well thank you thursdaysd - I'm glad I inspired. They are really great pictures and deserve a wider audience. You have a very good eye.

I'd like to assure you that the willy with ribbons is still extant. It has pride of place in my Bhutan pics, too. [and I'm sure, everybody else who has been to Paro]

I intended to make a collection of willy pics - alas, my plans were dashed. My guide was strangely reticent on the topic, despite my great enthusiasm.

I must say those festivals look just fabulous. Wow.

Thanks dogster - for the inspiration, and the kind words. I'm sorry you didn't get to see a festival, it's quite an experience!

I agree, not smoke... Your guide really was a loser, but I'm glad to hear that the tradition is intact.
