Best way to get to Singapore

After spending a great deal of time on the computer researching this topic, I still can't figure out how to get to Singapore without flying over 30 hours and which airport and airline to fly from. Although I'm in the eastern part of the country, I could go west and spend the night and then leave, but it's still very long. I don't think I could sit in economy for that long. Any experiences that anyone has had would be helpful.

Singapore Air has a non-stop flight from Newark to Singapore. Flight time in just under 19 hours.

If you are in the eastern U.S., you can fly nonstop from Newark on Singapore Airlines, but this is an all-business class flight and quite expensive. There's also a daily direct flight (via Frankfurt) from JFK. There's also a nonstop from LAX daily, as well as flights via Narita. I'm sure you could also easily connect on Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur or Thai Airways via Bangkok or Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong. There are also myriad other connections (most European-based airlines, most UAE-based airlines,etc.).

I'm not really understanding why you find this so hard, unless you're coming from somewhere else. Plug in your dates on Orbitz and see what pops up.

It's a long slog there (even nonstop is over 16 hours), and it doesn't matter much whether you go through Europe or Asia. The connection is pretty long. I've sat in economy that long to get to several places in Asia. And Asian airlines are among the world's finest and most comfortable.

I just booked a flight to Singapore from Hartford on United:

Hartford to Chicago to Hong Kong to Singapore - about 30 hours total with layovers. There's really no way around it as Singapore is halfway around the world from the east coast. We are flying business class, which helps. You might look into flying premium economy (on United) or executive economy (on some of the Asian Airlines) to make your trip more bearable.
