Yes annhig fully agree it is becoming a very unpredictable scenario. Still flooding in SL in February is akin to having snow in London in July!

Right now as I type its pouring outside - 29th Dec OMG this is very unusual! However its more like a passing tropical shower than prolonged torrential rain.

My SL friend who returned yesterday from a three week holiday reported that it rained every day but one in Colombo, a strange phenomenon. On Christmas Day, when Colombo suffered from torrential rain, she was up north in Jaffna enjoying bright sunshine. The weather itself is variable and it varies according to location.

You didn't ask advice about where to go, but I' ll put in a plug for Jaffna and the north. It is a beautiful area and has an interesting historical background. It has, also, both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage sites. An article in the NY Times several days ago tells of a visitor's train journey from Colombo to Jaffna. ZZ
