Best time to go to Japan: June vs. September

Hello everyone! I am taking my 2nd trip to Japan soon with my hubby and I am trying to see which time is the best time to go. I am torn between June-- Our anniversary (10 years!!) falls in June or in September. I know June will be the start of the rainy season and I'm concerned about that. But then I know September is considered Typhoon Season. We are going for about 10 days. Any advice on this?

Can you go later? Late October/into November and you'll get to see the koyo (fall colors) - spectacular!

Late September would be my choice if. I had to pick between those two months. October or November better still.

If it has to be one of the two, I would pick June as the temps are usually a bit lower. September can be horribly hot and humid. We were there this September and the only day we had to go to Kyoto was unbearably hot and rainy. As late as possible in September as mjs said. We were there in early September and it did cool down about two weeks after we left.

Happy anniversary!

@ Hawaiiantraveler Last time we spent most of our time in Tokyo/Shinjuku/Akihabara. This time around we want to go to Kyoto, Yokohama for a romantic date (http://www.yokohamajapan.com/tour-itineraries/city/), Spend more time in Odaiba, See Nara, Disney Sea, Nikko ( Edo Wonderland) and Takasakiyama Monkey Park.... I think those are on the top of my lists right now. IF we went in September, we def would have made a stop for the Tokyo Game Show, but I'm not sure we will be waiting until Sept.

@Kathie, we could go later, if we wanted too. I heard October is a very nice time to go, but we have to deal with his work and if it is considered a "busy season". Kinda annoying.

I think it would be nice to go for an anniversary thing and hopefully have some nice pictures taken but I'm up for anything, especially if I can find a great deal. These were just the two months we had on our minds at the moment.

Kaylaymay I can't comment on what June is like in Japan (my first trip was Sep/Oct and my second trip Oct/Nov) but just wanted to let you know we had the opposite dilemma for our 10th wedding anniversary trip back in 1994! (We celebrated 20 years a few months ago).

We decided on a trip to South Africa, Botswana and Namibia and knew from prior trips that May and June were our preferred months for those destinations, but our anniversary is in September.

We decided to go when the season was best rather than trying to shift the trip to coincide exactly with our anniversary, and we didn't regret it, the trip was wonderful.

We also renewed our wedding vows during the trip, which was very special.

If you don't have a choice between June and September, I'll recommend September. Let's say, late September and It's fall season. The weather is getting cold but food is yummy. June is rain season and humid a lot. Why don't you go to Japan in March? It's Spring and you can see cherry blossoms.

September...the later in September the better for your itinerary.

Aloha!
