Best time to book US - Malaysia flight?
 

Hi everyone, what's the best time to book a flight to Malaysia? What kind of fare could I hope to see for a trip in August - leaving from NYC? Right now, I'm mostly seeing ~$1300 pp. However, the same trip, if we went in May is $599 + taxes!

that $599 must be something very special....$1000+ would be the norm...

And are you comparing apples with apples? A $599 "teaser" price typically does not include taxes and fees, which wil be more than $100 per person. I'd recommend that you just keep watching prices. Malaysian Air has some nice specials from time to time (and it's a wonderful airline). Also, I typically find better prices at the individual airlines website than from other sites.

Yes, with fees & taxes, fares were around $800 (for May) vs. about $1000 + taxes etc for $1300 total in August. If fares won't go much below that for August, then perhaps I should book soon so that I can at least choose the flight schedules before flights start becoming full.

it is an odd thing but fares to asia seem to be cheaper for travel in the fall and winter (sept-april) than they are in our summer (april-august)...this is a generalization...
