Best stationary stores in Japan?
I am travelling to Osaka, Kyoto, Okayama/Kurashiki, and Hiroshima in 2 months with my girlfriend who LOVES collecting Japanese stationary. I know Tokyo has a lot of great places but unfortunately we will not be visiting this time. Anyone have recommendations for both small shops and the bigger department stores in the cities I've mentioned?
Thanks so much!

Are you looking for traditional japanese stationery or more modern stuff. There is a place called Morita that sells paper goods, handmade paper, calligraphy brushes etc in Kyoto. I forget exactly where it is...I think about 1/2 way between Teramachi dori and the train station. Ask- it is quite well known.
For more modern stuff, hit the depato. They all have HUGE stationery departments.

In Kyoto, there's a terrific shop in the enclosed shopping street, Teramachi-dori. It's a large shop, and they have stationary, calligraphy supplies, some exquisite scrolls, and many other wonderful items. Some English is spoken, as well.
The shop is one block south of Oike-dori, on the right side of Teramachi as you're walking from Oike toward Sanjo and Nishiki.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Yes, we'll be looking for the traditional Japanese paper (both for stationary and for decoration hanging). As far as the large department stores with a whole floor devoted to stationary/office supplies...is there one in every major city? What are some of the names of the big store chains?
Thanks again!
