Best shop for Thai Silk in Bangkok?

My wife wants to buy a large amount of thai silk to make curtains at home. Any suggestions on best places to shop? I know there are lots of shops, but we want to feel safe we are getting legitimate thai silk. Thanks

If she is looking for gorgeous prints, I'd highly recommend Jim Thompson. Go to the main store and take a look, then head to both outlet stores - one has only bolts of fabric, the other has both bolt of fabric and some of the signature JT merchandise (clothing, purses, etc.).

If she is looking for plainer fabric, Shinewatra has good plain colors. I don't like their prints much, and they carry several grades of silk, so make note of that as you look.

There are also a lot of smaller JT stores in some of the major hotels and in some of the nicer department stores. Not quite the selection of the main store, but it will give you an idea of what there is to offer at JT. I agree, it's beautiful silk! I have several JT silk purses and I get compliments on them all the time.

If one of the JT outlets has only blots and the other has bolts and merchandise which is which??
Thanks J

The one on soi 93 has both bolts and merchandise. The one just a block or two from the main store on Suriwong has just bolts of cloth.

JT is the most expensive in bkk probably, but the outlets has tons to choose from...soi 93, sukhumvit (skytrain to end of the line at on nut and then walk to 93---about 3-4 very hot blocks or hail a taxi as we do---the shop is on the left side of soi 93---look for the big brown sign)...several floors... discounts up to 90% but averaging about 50-60%....the outlet on suriwong is worth a stop to as is the main store on suriwong (we shop the main store first and then head to the outlets)---house goods are on an upper floor away from the main merchandise in the main shop....great cafe for lunch on floor 2...

sinwatra is good too (near soi 23, sukhumvit) and so is alenta silk also on soi 23....look at their web site...i will post address...

There's Jim Thompson and then there's everything else. The quality at JT (and the prices) is the highest.
