That's what I thought you meant as far as service goes as I'm the same way which is why, in Singapore, the Fairmont has worked out so well for me although my most stayed-in hotel in Singapore, over a decade, is the YMCA International House at #1 Orchard Road at Dhoby Gaut MRT. LOL!

But, if I want more luxury, depending on my budget from trip to trip, but a lower price than the Four Seasons, then it's the Fairmont as the staff is really great there as are the rooms and location. Happy Travels!

Take a look at the Ritz. Excellent views of the harbor and a fantastic bathroom!

I did also enjoy the Fairmont on the Club Floor as it inc. breakfast and canapes and lots of champagne and the room was very comfortable, just not large. The location is great too.

The Ritz is great and the rooms are beautiful and especially the ones with a view of the water. But, I personally don't like the location of the Ritz as there's no MRT nearby. Happy Travels!

travel, Just back from Singapore. We stayed at the Four Seasons again and found it totally satisfactory. Elegant but comfortable, excellent service, nice breakfast, good fitness center. They take good care of their guests.

We didn't make it over to the Hyatt, but I just wanted to mention that there's a major construction site on Scott's Road right next door to the Hyatt. You might want to look into that further as the noise and dust may be problematic.

I know it's embarassing to admit that we had pizza in Singapore, but hey, we live in Jakarta. So if "smart casual" Italian is of interest try La Strada, just a few minutes away from either the Hyatt or the Four Seasons. Beware of the wine list though. Excellent, but very pricey.

FWIW, we are going to end up at the 4S (got a GREAT deal on a 1B suite). We had originally booked the MO, but they just informed us that the pool is closing on Monday, which kind of defeats the point of staying there. A tiny bit of a panic this morning, but everything is set now.

Thanks to all for the help. Heading to the airport now and will soon be in SIN.

Sounds great! Let us know how you like the 4S!

travelgourmet Mar 1st, 2010 08:39 AM

So... We really liked the 4S. The suite was gorgeous and the bed was incredible. Loved having a second bathroom. Honestly, it would make an excellent small apartment if you tacked on a kitchen. I liked the style, as well. Perhaps a bit bland, but much less "fussy" than I feared it might be.

The pool area was as advertised. Pleasant and uncrowded, but you don't forget you are in Singapore.

As for the service... A nice balance between leaving you alone and being attentive, though the valet area was strangely hectic for pretty much the entire time.

All in all, I would definitely stay there again, especially at the price they charged, but I'm not sure I've forsaken all others.

TG, Thanks for the update. I like everything about the 4S about the rate. Agree, the BEST beds.

How did you get your super low rate? Directly or through a web-based service?

travelgourmet Mar 1st, 2010 02:17 PM

marmot - Booked through Expedia. It was roughly $150/night cheaper than through the 4S site. It involved a pre-payment and a free night deal, though. Also, great may be overstating the case, but the suite was under $300/night and doubles were under $200/night.

Now, a shameless prop for SQTalk, certain Girls recently promoted to those green and red colours, and, yes, the Singapore Fairmont Hotel. (A bit of a corporate 'freebie' this past weekend (review, forthcoming), but will always remain a SIN FS Loyalist - and our little Singaporean home.)

There's more choices now with the opening of the hotels in Resort World (RWS) in Sentosa. The hotels are the Crockford Tower, Festive Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Hotel Michael, which together offer 1,350 rooms and 10 restaurants.

Marina Bay Sands (MBS) will be opening mid April with 2,500 rooms.

Thanks for the update, Travelgourmet. And yes, the Four Seasons hotels have incredibly comfortable beds. If you're ever in San Francisco try the one there which is also wonderful. And I like the fact that FS hotels aren't a lot of frou-foru and that although they take really good care of their guests, they also leave you alone. Happy Travels!
