Best hotel in Hong Kong?
 

We are staying one night in Hong Kong and would love any good hotel recommendations?

Hi taveling2...your question is too broad. There are LOTS of good hotels in Hong Kong.With only one night available I suggest you stay Kowloon side but give us an idea how much you want to pay and let us know how much (if any) day time you will have available for sightseeing. Cheers!

The two best hotels in Hong Kong are the Peninsula Hotel and the Intercontinental Hong Kong (formally known as the regent).

We arrive in Hong Kong at noon and depart the next day at 2 pm. So just a quick stop over really. The price range is under 125 for the hotel. I understand that the Kowloon side is the one that views the bay?? But I haven't looked into any sight seeing yet. Is that location close to local attractions?

the salisbury YMCA and the kowloon hotel are both good buys and excellent locations

If you want to be in Kowloon I'd go for the Peninsula since it has some history.
I like the Mandarin on the Hong Kong side although I have not been there in several years.

The Tsimshatsui area in the tip of Kowloon is the best for visitors. And yes, the view is better from the Kowloon side towards Hong Kong Island, but for your budget, the only hotel you can get with a harborview will be the YMCA.

Other hotels nearby that you can get for about US$100 includes the New World Renaissance, Kowloon (small rooms), Marco Polo Gateway and Marco Polo Prince, Holiday Inn Golden Mile. But hotel prices in Hong Kong fluctuates greatly, depending on the specific date. Some of the above hotels may want up to US$180 for some dates.

Stay on the Kowloon side no matter what you do. We found that in three days in Hong Kong we only used the hotel to sleep as we were so out and about so much. Thus, I wouldn't worry too much regarding the quality of the hotel as much as the location.

We stayed in the Ritz Carlton and the service and room was excellent. Great view on the city as well. Mandarin has a stunning interior and have heard its even better. both are in good locations.

Kowloon: Peninsula, InterContinental, Kowloon Shangri-La

Hong Kong: Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton, Conrad, Island Shangri-La, Grand Hyatt, Four Seasons (open soon).

The Mandarin Oriental will be closed for major renovations later this year. The M-O group will have the new Landmark Hotel ready in Central by then.

If you want a 5* hotel at &lt;5* prices, try these two:

- Harbour Plaza in Hung Hom. Inconvenient location; Chinese leaders stay there in when visiting HK as it's the flagship of Li Ka-Shing's chain.

- Langham Place in Mongkok. Brand new hotel in a downscale neighborhood.</b>

With only 1 night stay at the Salisbury YMCA, get a harbour view room...Then you can quickly take the ferry to the Peak Tram and you can come back, do some walking around Kowloon, have some supper and come back to the hotel and experience a fabulous view..No point in spending a ton of money for only 1 night and the YMCA is a perfectly fine hotel...
