Best Forum for Trekking Dscussion ?

Hi All,

Do you know which is the best forum or website to seek info on trekking in Tibet and Nepal ?

Thanks,

You might try www.lonelyplanet.com.

Do you mean the Thorn Tree forum ? Many people there are very silly or childish.

Is there any other forum with more serious users or trekkers ?

I don't personally know what the people on the infohub site are like, but I just googled for asia hiking forum and found http://www.infohub.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=130. The first thread was "Trekking Nepal," so maybe you'd like to give it a try?

I also would recommend the ThornTree. There is no better forum for off-the-beaten-path locations, IMO. Yes, there are some childish posters (we have them here from time to time, too, but the moderators are mostly pretty good about getting rid of the really offensive posts).

Simple, get over it. You reduce your credibility on this board by always complaining about the ThornTree.

Thanks pebbles13.

Kathie,

I don't mind losing my own credibility if I can help others. What I mentioned about Thorn Tree is true and I don't wish others to be "victimised" too.
I may visit them for info but I will ask for info there as I know how some responses are going to be.
2 months ago, I contributed a very long post cautioning everyone about my SCAM experience during my last visit to Bangkok and I got so some attacks accusing me of making up stories, nearly as many as those who appreciated me cautioning them.
Maybe that forum is so popular with low end and free and easy traveller that scammers are there too.
You may think I am up to my imagination but think of it closely, you will agree with me that scammers and touts will frequent forums too for their own interests.

Correction to my message above.

It should be, "....but I WILL not ask for infor there(Thorn Tree)...".

I understand the comments about the thorn tree, there are some very helpful members and very useful posts, but it's often hard to find them amongst all the childish and nasty posts. (that I’ve even been drawn into lately)

The Indian Subcontinent branch can be hard work some times, but nothing in comparison to the Thailand branch, I won't even look there for info.

Indiamike.com has a 'Trekking and Mountaineering' forum.

http://www.indiamike.com/india/forumdisplay.php?f=89

and a 'Crossing the Border' forum

http://www.indiamike.com/india/forumdisplay.php?f=57

They may be worth checking out, I've heard the trekking info is very good, but can't confirm as I'm not a trekker.

Good luck.
