Beijing- Train to Xi'an

Can anyone recommend some good food to bring on the overnight train? I know i can go to the grocery store and get some instant noodles. Any other suggestions?

Wander the aisles of a supermarket. :)

Fruit - oranges, apples, bananas. Crackers and/or cookies. Sliced cheese (excellent when combined with the apples).

Honestly the train left late enough in the evening that I wasn't awake and hungry for very long and pretty much just had a couple snacks and went to bed.

Definitely take bottled water. There is a hot tap near the bathrooms to make a bucket of instant noodles, but that's it. You can probably buy water from the snacks cart but it's easier to just have what you'll need.

All the above are great suggestions with the bowl of noodles being the best. Wake up early and look out the window 1 1/2 hours before arriving into X'ian. You will see lots of people living in caves and other interesting sights of life in the Chinese countryside.

I did a trip report on the ride a couple of years back if you are interested:

Hawaiintraveler: good trip report. My fav food is Chinese so I hope it goes well with beer and tea b/c I am not paying those prices for wine!
