Beijing- Train to Xi'an
Can anyone recommend some good food to bring on the overnight train? I know i can go to the grocery store and get some instant noodles. Any other suggestions?

ham...its well cured and does not need a fridge.... cheese...
apples... cookies.... chocolate candy.... bottled water... |
Wander the aisles of a supermarket. :)
Fruit - oranges, apples, bananas. Crackers and/or cookies. Sliced cheese (excellent when combined with the apples). Honestly the train left late enough in the evening that I wasn't awake and hungry for very long and pretty much just had a couple snacks and went to bed. Definitely take bottled water. There is a hot tap near the bathrooms to make a bucket of instant noodles, but that's it. You can probably buy water from the snacks cart but it's easier to just have what you'll need. |
Thanks guys!

All the above are great suggestions with the bowl of noodles being the best. Wake up early and look out the window 1 1/2 hours before arriving into X'ian. You will see lots of people living in caves and other interesting sights of life in the Chinese countryside.
I did a trip report on the ride a couple of years back if you are interested: http://tinyurl.com/4aqat4y Aloha! |
Hawaiintraveler: good trip report. My fav food is Chinese so I hope it goes well with beer and tea b/c I am not paying those prices for wine!
