Beijing hutong - Sihe Hotel

I am looking for some reviews on the Sihe Hotel located in the hutong of Beijing. Anyone stay there?

Thank you!

Ni hao Marksfour!

We too had the Beijing Sehe courtyard hotel (ca. 980 yuan per night) on our shortlist for our visit in August, but ended up booking the Spring Garden courtyard hotel (ca. 720 yuan p.n.), in the Nanwei Hutong in central Beijing and absolutely loved it. See the review at

The Sehe also has excellent – even rave - reviews on TripAdvisor, click

Hope this helps,

Thank you Jackie for your reply. I narrowed it down to Spring Garden (from your posts)and the Sihe. Is there any specific reason why you chose the Spring Garden over Sihe?

We will be visiting our daughter who will be finishing her year of study there and she will get to travel with us. It will be nice to have someone with us who speaks Mandarin.

Love your posts! What an adventure :)

Hi again Markfour – and thanks for the compliment re my posts!

Yes it was an amazing six-week adventure; we are now contentedly chewing on the cud of memories and assembling an album to relive it all when the flavour of the experience needs refreshing ;).

The main reason for our choice of Spring Garden over Sihe (aside from price) was SG’s more central location – walking distance to Beihai Park and the Forbidden City, and the fact that it was such a small complex of just 8 rooms, only opened in November last year, so everything new and fresh.

Downloaded several maps of Beijing during our research to pinpoint the various lodgings – and the Spring Garden seemed to offer the best location for our love of just strolling the streets and soaking up the local atmosphere.

How wonderful that you’ll be visiting your daughter, and have your very own special ‘local’ to show you the sights and help with translation. Hope she’s enjoyed her studies and the Beijing experience as much as our son did!

Happy travel planning,

Jackie

My husband and I just stayed at the SiHe. It was wondeful - it's small, lovely staff, and good location. I recommend that you upgrade your room choice primarily becuase the standards are quite small - though comfortable. The hutong is quiet and simple, several small markets, families gathered on the street in the evening to play cards, etc. It's well worth consideration. You might check the reviews on tripadvisor.com - that's what sold us on it.

Thank you Donna! There will be 3 of us so I do think a bigger room will be a must.

Reviews of Sihe on TripAdvisor inspired us to plan a stay there in November. We have a Deluxe Room with an extra bed for RMB790, includes breakfast and service charges. Arrangements made through sinohotelguide.com.

Just returned from 3 weeks in China,

We enjoyed staying at the SiHe. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff was most pleasant. Breakfast is included- simple but adequate.

The hutong was a peaceful escape from the city. It was very quiet for sleeping.
