Beijing Hotel for 1 night on the way to Tibet- Posh, Courtyard, or Airport?
I hope you can give me some good advice on this one. I'll be traveling to Tibet this summer in the middle of August. On the way to Lhasa, we'll need to spend one night in Beijing. On the way back, we'll also need to stay one night in Beijing.
Do you have any recommendations for hotels? I'm torn between something posh like the Peninsula and something cozy with character like the small boutique courtyard hotels. Also considering airport hotels. It's only for one night each stay though, arriving late and leaving early the next morning. The focus of this trip isn't Beijing, but Tibet. I've been to Beijing before and seen all of the sights. Still, I want to have a nice stay even though it's a short one. Is it worth staying in the city or better to stay by the airport? Going, the arrival time in Beijing is 8:05 p.m. and leaving the next morning to Lhasa at 9:15 a.m. Coming back, the arrival in Beijing is 10:50 p.m. and next day departure time is 2:45 p.m. When having a one night stopover in Bangkok, I always like to stay in town, even though it's a short stay. How about for Beijing? Would it be better to stay in the city? Any advice appreciated! |
On the first stop in Beijing I would stay next to the airport as you have no time.
On your second stop I would opt for the Pen or something with an interesting neighborhood where I could at least walk around early the next morning and the Pen fits the bill. So does the Grand Hyatt. Aloha! |
Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. I'm still looking for a decent hotel by the airport for the arrival...

Capital Hotel
3 Qian Men East Street Beijing just a few blocks from Tian An Men Sqaure. Not quaint. But it was similar to a marriott. 30-40 minutes from airport. |
We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the night before departing Beijing. Many airline flight crews use it.
