BEIJING FIRE--Koolhaas CCTV tower destroyed
|
It perhaps helps to read the story.
The tower that has been damaged to the point it may need to be pulled down is the TVCC tower, a much smaller companion building to the CCTV tower, and not the famous 'big shorts' itself, which stands a little distance away and is undamaged. |
Yes, upon re-reading I see that my title was inaccurate.
That's why we need fact-checkers! |
|
I saw this on the news...I also have driven by the building several times last trip. What idiots! Fireworks that the police said not to use and then they bloody set fire to it accidently. They are after the people who let it happen and apparantly the Mandsarin Oriental dont own the buolding but were leasing. They are in Big trouble.

Is there something wrong with us to set off fireworks? It's natural sometimes something get fire or even burnt, but this time, unfortunately, the famous tower accidently got. Fabulous firewirks are integral part of our bustling traditional CNY. Bang way the bad, welcome the good !

<i>"Bang way the bad, welcome the good !"</i>
Yes, but did it have to be this big a bang??? Otherwise, I'm confused. What burned down. The unfinished Mandarin Oriental hotel or the TVCC tower? ekscrunchy: thanks for posting this! |
The MO is in the TVCC tower.
|
ekscrunchy: thanks for the clarificaiton.
I found a picture of the burnt out shell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_Cultural_Center |
Seems i didn't mean we burned TVCC by fireworks on purpose. Sure, we need big bangs, but not ones producing such effect! Those with impressive colours, deafening sound make proper bustling atmosphere! That's what we have been celebrating for thousands years -- "CNY".
