Beaches closest to Rajasthan
Hi there, So I will need to chill on a gorgeous beach after my visit in India and wonder if anyone can recommend some great beaches. I will be in Rajasthan so obviously I have to fly somewhere. Back in the day Goa was the place to be, not so sure right now...

Hi. I would say Goa is always the beat place in India to enjoy and relax at beautiful beaches. As accommodation and food is also available at reasonable prices, you can always head to this party capital of India. Also, if you are willing to try some new place, then you can go Rameshwaram, it's a beautiful city with some lovely and stunning beaches. :)

how would one go about getting to somewhere like that. anjali?
it seems to be comparatively close to Madurai [only 3 hours drive away] |
While Rajasthan is a land locked province in India you'll need to go westward to find a beach to chill. Most travellers to India miss out on the hidden gem. Gujarat. Its so vibrant and full of culture.Another independent state on the coast is Daman & Diu.A former Portuguese territory. Its got some great beaches. Take a look here

Well, kinda far from Rajasthan, but I'm putting this out for both your current, and Fodorites' future, reference:
Nileshwar Beach on the far north Kerala Coast. Soft white sand beaches lined by coconut palms, and very few people. There are lovely hotels and resorts starting at about $75/night ranging up to Taj Hotel level expense. We had delicious super-fresh seafood lunch and a great walk at Malabar Ocean Front Resort. If ever there again, I'm staying overnight!!! |
Loved Nileshwar. The Malabar Ocean Front looks gorgeous.Maybe next time.Stayed at Neeeleshwar Hermitage, simply fantastic. Some of the best beaches are in northern Kerala, quite easily reachable from Mangalore.

This past winter we visited three different beaches in Goa for evening walks and stayed at two different beaches in Kerala--one on Thottada beach close to Kannur and one on Marari beach close to Kochi. We preferred Kerala. But, I think it depends on what you are looking for. Do you want a beach with the buzz of an easily accessible bar and restaurant scene? Goa. Or, do you prefer something more undisturbed and tranquil? Kerala. Are you looking for luxurious accommodation or a very simple lodging with access to a beach? You can find both. We opted for the simple rooms and at Marari Beach couldn't figure out why people would pay triple what we were paying to have a fancier accommodation with access to the same beach. But, that is our travel style; it may not be yours.

Right, what do you want to do on the beach? Because, I, personally would not go swimming. Walk on the beach, yes. Sit beside it, eating and drinking, yes. Swimming, no.
The southernmost Kerala beaches were still reasonably peaceful when I was there, but that was late 2010. You probably need to go further south now. |
I don't have any idea about Beaches but for lakes you should go:
Ana Sagar Lake Gaib Sagar Lake Pushkar Lake |
Interestingly there are ten or more states in India is gifted with beautiful and numerous beaches. You can go anywhere you like and Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Pondicherry, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and so on, each of them is blessed to have famous beaches like Promenade and Karaikal beach, Marina beach, Mahabalipuram beach, Varkala beach, Alappuzha beach, Kollam beach etc. but necessarily near Rajasthan you have to travel more in order to get sizzled by the beaches in India. On second thought it is totally your decision on how you wanna spend your holidays then accordingly select your beaches. If you are in the mood of partying and all then Goa is all time favorite throughout the year but if you wants to have a walk with nature and desperate to watch changing of various colors while sunrise and sunsets than all the beaches are very nice especially in South India. Hope you got what you are looking for.
