Beach resorts without too much fuss?

Which beach resorts in the South Pacific are the least difficult to get to time & travel-wise from the northeast USA? We are intrigued by the Aman resorts but are daunted by the various transfers and long treks from the airport. We've never been in the area and hardly know where to begin, but would like to know which places in the area are easiest to get to.

I recently saw this "Air Tahiti Nui is pleased to announce its expansion plans and for the first time in history, a new non-stop service between Papeete and New York commences July 2005". Also Thai Air now flies direct NY to Bangkok and you could connect to a number of places from there easily. Maybe with these new capacity aircraft, other airlines are offering similar possibilities. Enjoy planning your trip!

If by South Pacific you mean Tahiti, then yes the new Air Tahiti Nui flight direct from NY will be your quickest bet. The Hotel Bora Bora is an Aman resort.

For SouthEast Asia, the quickest flights from the east coast are the flight nonstop to BKK on Thai, or the Singapore Air nonstop from Newark. From Singapore, it is another 2+ hour flight to Java or Bali, where there are Aman resorts.

I'm curious. You posted on the Asia forum, a question about the South Pacific. That's two different regions of the globe. Did you post on the wrong forum, or do you really mean SE Asia beaches?

Phuket or Koh Samui are both a short plane ride from Bangkok. Getting to Bangkok is a long trek which cannot be avoided! There are other beach areas that are reached by taxi or shuttle van out of Bangkok.

Have fun planning.

I meant to add that my favorite South Pacific island group is the Cook Islands, but they are yet another flight from Tahiti!

I wasn't sure if I was posting in the right forum either, but I didn't see any other one that would cover the South Pacific, but we're also interested in southeast Asia. Thank you to everyone for the tips. Now I just have to convince my husband to take an extra week of vacation, though I've heard that some of these resorts are so magnificent, so out of this world, that it makes all the traveling seem like nothing.

And do not discount Fiji. One change of planes (typically in Los Angeles) will get you there. And they have many wonderful resorts.
