Battery recharging.
 

We have traveled extensively but without things that had to have their battery recharged. F'r instance cameras. (We are just joining the 21st century):-(.

Do the hotels in Bangok and Chaing Mai have 110V facilities to charge batteries?. I have have seen fellow travelers on other trips handing something to the staff at other 220V countries to be charged.

Check your battery charger. Chances are that it will work on both 110v and 220v. All of ours are. Just returned from Thailand and had no problems.

I did. I'd hoped that it was 110/220 but it only says 110 :-B

Further problems.

I was going to buy a special travel one.

I found an American Tourister travel set that seemed to be just what I need to have it work on 220. Nope, It says, "Don't use on electronic items, like a Battery Charger"

What king of camera battery are you using? The chargers for proprietary batteries are almost always dual voltage. I am presuming that your camera takes AA or AAA batteries and you bought a charger somewhere else (which are mostly single voltage type.)

If you are in the US, COSTCO sells dual voltage Panasonic chargers with AAA and AA NiMH batteries.

please tell me what the final answer is. going to SEA soon with a dig camera and charger. do I need an adaptor, too. if I go on line at COstco (exp: usually store does not have electronics)l what am I looking for? thnak you

I checked at COSTCO this noon. Nothing.

I did find a converter (=transformer) at GoodGuys - called a worldwide transformer but didn't have the adaptor plugs. Will hunt tomorrow.

I got a Kodak recharger and adapters at Circuit City where I got the camera and used it in my hotels in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I see now that it says on the back: "Input 100 - 240V ~0.2A".

Before I got that adapter, I got one at Radio Shack but I could not use it. The two NiMH batteries in the camera come bound together. The battery pack didn't fit in the RS adapter but does fit the Kodak adapter.

I got the transformer (= converter ) at GoodGuys. (The clerk knew absolutly nothing)

Got the plug converter in a store specializing in travel gear. I managed to buy only converter. :-B

this seems to be truly men's stuff; so help me out here, guys as I am electromnic equipmemt-cjhallenged. I have a regular ordinary hp dig. camera that takes 2 AA batteries. I have a regular battery charger for them + 2 more batteries. what do I need to buy (please be as specific as possible) in order to re-charge these batteries while in BKK, Cambodia, LPB and SIN and where do I find this/these items? (again, specifics). thank you, lowvoltage (I'd add a smiley face here but I don't know how to do that, either.)

The charger that I found is a SONY that can accept 110 volts like we use in the US and 220 that is used in most of the rest of the world. It specifically says
that on the package and the charger. I got it in an electronic store, but the travel gadget store also had one but more expensive.

The adaptor from the US flat blade plug to the cylindrical plug was in the travel gadget store.

We have AA batteries two pair in the charger and one pair in the camera.

We apparently don't use the camera correctly because we are always having to change batteries. :-B

I had this problem with my Sony dig camera when I first got it, and then realized that I had the flash set to flash on every shot. You may want to check this.

I am heading to Bangkok, Phuket, and Singapore for my honeymoon in April, was just checking out recharging options for my camera and my iPod.

ED: thanks and have a wonderful trip. besides the flash, you may also have the resolution set at the highest which is also fast-draining. You'll get excellemnt quality pics (and won't be able to tell the diff) if you set the resolution on the middle one. good luck. will look forward to reading your postings.

My 14 year of granddaughter showed us how to use the camera. We have it on medium resolution and the flash on only if necessary.

I think that I will let my wife use the digital and I will stick with my Nikon N80. My granddaughters 17,14 & 13 will be patronizing :-B
