shelly, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu have slightly different weather patterns. We visited both in November, which is rainy season, but the weather was not a problem. We had a real downpour one afternoon when we were driving back from Kinabalu Park, but otherwise a brief shower here and there. Take a look at www.weatherbase.com

Kathie, could I beg your advice once again? I have just had an excellent quote for flying into KK and flying back to the UK from Kuching. I think the Borneo Rainforest might not be possible in our budget but wonder if you could let me know how we should split our time between Sabah & Sarawak? We are looking at provisional dates of 16 September 08 to 2 October 08, with the possibility of a day or two flexibility on either side. I definitely want to book Hilton Kuching and will look at Shangri La as you suggest should we get to KK.
Many thanks |
We went in January (to Sabah and Sarawak) and were prepared for big rain - in fact there was very little rain at all. I think at anytime the weather can be changeable, but it was no problem - we never used the raincoats we took.
Dotty do look at Kinabatangan Jungle Camp if you feel BRF is too expensive - this is a very nice place, not as plush as I imagine BRF to be, but you can see a lot. Its also very nice seeing wildlife from a boat, its not too arduous, and leeches etc are not a prob. http://www.kinabatangan-jungle-camp.com/ |
Dotty, it really depends on what you want to do in each place. Let your activities determine your division of time. If the BRL is beyond your budget, do consider the place Jane recommends. The opportunity to stay at a jungle lodge is a not-to-be missed option. The BRL is not plush by any means (it's price reflects how remote it is), but it is the only place to stay in the Danum Valley, where you have the highest likelihood of seeing Orangs in the wild. You may be interested in a day trip to Kinabalu park, and if you want beach, the Shangri-La near KK would be the place to go.
