Are you wanting the real thing or a copy? I would still try some of the shops at MBK, 4th floor, in the back area. Carol |
I would definitely suggest Tango. Their stuff is amazing, great quality, made by a local Thai deisgner and in $ terms not at all expensive for what you get. I also like the Jim T stuff esp quality but they may not have enough beaded stuff - go to their main store at Silom Road for the best selection. Central Chitlom is IMO always a good place for a browse. So, yes, same suggestions!

Where is Tango?? Is it one of the shops at MBK or is it someplace else? I've not noticed it before. Carol |
Carol, Tango has 2 branches, 1 in Gaysorn and 1 in Siam Center. They do primarily bags and a range of shoes - all hand made, embellished, beaded, embroidered, adorned with crustals, patchwork, stones. They also do a very limited range of shoes and some jewelry. They are expensive by Bkk standards (2000-5000 baht for shoes, 3000-8000 baht for bags) but I LOVE their stuff and get loads of compliments on them.

I think I may have seen Tango at Gaysorn. Sounds familiar. I bought a cute butterfly pin there, maybe?? Yes, they do have nice things.

This is such good information I thought I'd top it - new posters like myself will love it!

After all the discussion about gold and beaded bags, my request is going to sound mundane, but would love to know where I can buy things like scented soaps, creams & bath products. I just love the Thai aromas like jasmine & lemongrass, and somewhere I recall someone mentioning products with rice oil or something like that. Thought this might make nice small gifts & also bring back nice memories for me at home. Also, any suggestions for places to buy inexpensive art work -- drawings or sketches of Thai scenes? And finally, anyone know where I might find a desk calendar with photographs of Thailand?
