bangsue district in BKK?
 

i'll be staying in the bangsue district for the duration of my volunteer program in BKK, but can't seem to find it on any maps! can anyone enlighten me and maybe point me to an online map that depicts its relative location? i'm told it's "on the other side of the river" (whatever that means), in a "suburb." i don't much care about the location as a neigborhood (it's pre-determined bcz it's where the program has it's house and where we will delivered to/from our respective volunteer jobs each day.) i just want to find the dang place on a visual aid! :D

Never heard of it...probably because it IS on the other side of the river...the river side that's not attached to the main area of Bangkok. Plus,it's very common in Thailand for a word to be spelled many different ways. So, there could be several other spellings and I might not be recognizing it by that spelling.Good luck. Bangsue area is a bit North West-ish on the way to the airport, not far from Chatuchak...It is also the last (or 1st..) station on the Subway. Check out the link to get your bearings.. http://www.bangkok-city.com/mrta.htm

you are very lucky to be near to the subway....it is very cheap and only one year old...it connects in two places to the skytrain: asoke and silom but the fares are not interconnecting

-I bts is cheep, the subway is a litle pricey.

-bang sue looks to be a biggish district.

- you are fairly lucky many volanters and forign "contract" teachers are housed in the fringes of the city.

-just looking quickly at my map there is a tesco lotus in the district so going to your local mega market wil not be a problem.

orgy7, one of the great things about this volunteer organization is that they provide three thai meals a day as part of the gig, not to mention housing and transportation to an from our worksites. (volunteers have varied jobs) the organization is "cross-cultural solutions. i pay to volunteer, but the outfit is finacially sound, well run and partnered with the UN. and it's actually cost effective because the entire expense of the trip - airfare included - is tax deductible!

Bangsue is in a sleepy part of Bangkok and it sort of looks like Bangkok during the 70s. As long as you have access to the skytrain or underground then you'll be fine.

it may be financially sound but if it is partnered with the UN, i would hold my breathe..... they could screw up a perfect thai day

so true, rhkkmk! actually, i should have been more specific by defining what i meant by "partner." rather, cross-cultural solutions is recognized as an expert in its field of humanitarian organizations and has been granted special consultative status by the UN. it struck me a cool gig and an interesting perspective from which to experience BKK -- we'll see, i guess!

btw, still shopping for airfares/rewards flights....grrrrrrr....it's going to be very expensive or very uncomfortable or very long - and very likely two out of the three!
