I've read a lot of pros and cons about this and I posted this question on a previous thread but I think people misunderstood my question.

Is this worth going to as an experience -- NOT TO BUY ANYTHING. I mean I didn't buy anything at the Kashgar market but it was a fabulous experience. If it is just hot, dusty, dirty and has no "local flavor" I'll skip it. I was there 20 years ago and didn't like it but thought my friend might like the experience.

We will definitely go to the flower market and to the different markets in Chiang Mai and hopefully some markets in villages around Chiang Mai.

So do you agree that we should skip the weekend market? Again, we would not be going to buy anything.

i guess i understood your question before and understand it now too...it is a destination...it takes a while to get to it...it is hot, busy, etc...all of the things you have said...as you saw in your other post, many people love it...and find things to buy...if you saw one interesting person, then it would have been worth going to...only you can answer your own question...what exactly are you looking for?????

By all means skip this place if you are not going to shop- its crowded, hot, the stalls are cramped, not any good places to sit down and get something to eat and drink in a/c- why put yourself thru this?

Hi, Gloria, I think I'm the one who misunderstood your previous question! I comp agree wth Bill and others that if you are not going to shop avoid Jatujak like the plague. As far as ambience goes, the Night Bazaar provides some of the same tho a lot more touristy. Given proximity and how much more comfortable it is suggest u go to the Night Bazaar - if at all!

Yes the ambiance at the Night Bazaar is much better- the stalls are wider, not as crowded and I believe there are a few decent places to sit down and eat.
Much cooler with the sun down.

pluss the main thai boxing stadium is right next too the night bizzare. and there is a verry big bear garden. or better stated bear gardens... each brewer has it's own venue.

Where is the night market you're referring to? Is it near a skytrain stop? thanks

Its not very close to the BTS - I think the nearest stop would be Ploenchit. From there it is a walk of maybe 10 mins. Is generally in the vicinity of Central dept store, Erawan shrine, Gaysorn Plaza, not far from MBK, the Conrad Hotel, the Four Seasons Hotel if any of these are on your planned stops. The address is Suan Lum Night Bazaar. Is very well known so at Ploenchit just ask which direction and if you take the correct exit is a straight road. Stalls open 6 onwards so are all open by 7:30. Close 10ish.

Hobbes.. the walk from ploenchit too market is more on the lines of 15-20 minuts, wireless road is kind of long. the new subway has a stop right next too night bizzare. (lumpini station)

Rajativee station (sp) is not much better it's maybe a 10-15 minut walk.. but you could cut accros lumpina park which can make it more intersting.

Orgy, Suan Lum or Lumini Park at night or dusk... Ohh.. ladies of the night, transvestite, homo hangout yep that will be more interesting definately!

Hanumon...ya I did post that lumpini at night is dangerous but dusk is actually nice well atleast from 5-7... as you know thats when many people get out of work, eat and relax and in many parks at about 5:30 PM offer public arobics sessions.

so that actually not a bad walking itinurary. take a walk around park maybe ride one of the pedle boats.. stand at salute for the thai national antham at 6pm finish your stroll and make your way to night bizzare grab a beer and food then shop around..


personaly I'd just take the BTS too sala dang. and then use subway too lumpini station.
