Bangkok travelogue with kids (ages 5 and 3)

We've just come back from a two-week-trip to Thailand with our kids. It was a wonderful trip! I always like to come back and share how it went after having sought advice from the forum.

I posted the two-part travelogue for Bangkok here:
http://hitherandthither.net/travelog...angkok-part-1/
http://hitherandthither.net/travelog...angkok-part-2/

Thank you as always for the advice, Fodorites!

Loved the blog--amazing photos, cute kids and fun reading.
You are an inspirational family for traveling the world.
Kids are learning so much as they wander around and taste the good food.
Have a great weekend.

Great travelogue, thanks for sharing. Loved the pictures, the stories, the kids' happy faces.
We'll be there in January, with a very similar itinerary. Can't wait to read about your time in Khao Sok and Khao Yai.

A few thoughts...

I love travelogues like yours because it gives me that extra boost of bravery. If you can visit Bangkok with your adorable kids, surely I can manage a trip solo!

I can't decide which photos were better: the ones with the elephants or your son chowing down on a cricket. Or your son taking pictures. I mean, elephant hills looks like it was an amazing experience, but your son may be my spirit animal

You mentioned dress code for the temples- is it like Rome where your shoulders and knees need to be covered or it more extensive than that?

I really appreciate so much that you went through that effort of researching elephant experiences. I was wondering about that in regards to Asia. I'd love to see elephants up close but I find the irresponsible businesses so depressing- I always feel so sorry for circus or sea world animals. Also, FLOATING TENTS. I can't find their rates on their website but I'm pretty sure I'd gladly pay a premium for such an experience.

Thanks so much for that trip report! Definitely made my evening and you transformed Bangkok from a "maybe" to a "must do" on my travel wish list!!

Thank you all! Really appreciate the kind words--we feel incredibly lucky to get to take them on these travels. It was great to see it through their eyes.

@marvelousmouse--it's very similar. Knees should be covered by skirts and only full length pants. No leggings/tight pants or ripped jeans. Shoulders must be covered. Hats must be removed. Slip-on shoes are suggested as they must often be removed, too.

The Koh Sok trip log is up and the Ko Yao Noi is being posted tomorrow.

Thank you again!

you made no mention of the giant komo dragons on Hong island's beach, so I assume you did not see one. it would have been your kids #1 remembrance---next time.

@rhkkmk We did see some of the incredibly huge monitor lizards while in Thailand—amazing! I did some sleuthing and it sounds like they're a different subspecies. The Komodos are still only in Indonesia... unless someone brought one to Hong Island!

We actually only stopped on a relatively secluded beach on the side--and not the main beach where it sounds like they've added a dock. From what I can tell, most of the lizards like to hang out over there because there are more food scraps.

Thank you for the nice note!
