Bangkok to Hong Kong
I am booking flights from Bangkok to HOng Kong for Dec 12. As of now, Emeritas Airlines has the cheapest fares which is $260 US dollars. That seems expensive to me.
I have read that its cheaper to book a flight in Thailand than intl. I"m not sure if that means I should take the chance of waiting till I get to Bangkok and then book the flight. I would love to hear from anyone that has done this route. Maybe $260 is a good fare. Thanks for any info. |
You could always fry with Air Asia to Macau for around $80 and take the ferry to HH. That is the cheapest way that I know.
|
I'll wait until you get there. BKK-HKG has like 10 airlines running that route, and prices are always competitive. And it's very likely that all 15-16 flights will be full.

check out the "discount airlines in asia" page on wikipedia. they list all the discount airlines flying this route.

I have booked Bangkok to Hong Kong (one way) on China Airlines - was cheapest I could find and very efficient email confirmations returned - I paid 11220 baht for 2 people inc tax. It may be worth checking if fares are still good when you want to travel? I think its showing 5300 baht for the day you want (ex tax).

Thank you all so much for the info.
I am going to look into all the options suggested. RKK - You mentioned there are many airlines flying from BKK-HKG. Do they not post their flights on the net? If I waited till I was in Bangkok, which is only a week before I have to fly to HK, where would I look into the flights? Thanks again so much for the info. |
Love-here's the thing: If you want a cheap fare from BKK to HKG do as I did: AND GO TO MACAU FIRST. As an example, I went to kayak.com, which lists all the carriers and their cheapest fares for your date of departure, and Emirates was showing the cheapest fare at $239.00. I don't think for that date you are going to do better than that. On the OTHER hand, if you go to Airasia.com, put in your date of Dec. 12th, one way, BKK to Macau, the cost is only $44.00US (1429 Thai baht). Quite a difference! You could spend a night here seeing the sights, and then take the ferry over to HKG, and cab to your hotel. It would be cheaper than the one-way fares into HKG airport, which then will require you to take the train and cab to your hotel, which adds even more to the total fare. Macau is a great option, I flew this route on Air Asia and was very satisfied with it.

The 1429 baht fare does not include taxes etc. As I said in a previous post the lowest net cost for the 12th is around $80 (999 baht+taxes of 1560=2559.

LoveToTravel49 - Some of those airlines are not daily, and some of them only sell through their own website or through agents - that include the low cost airlines Orient Thai and Hong Kong Express.
Airlines that fly BKK-HKG non-stop include: Cathay Pacific Thai China Airlines Emirates SriLankan Kenya Airways Orient Thai Hong Kong Express Ethiopian Pakistan Int'l |
I have used China Airlines 2 or 3 times for flights from BKK to Hong Kong. (www.china-airlines.com)
There are other airlines that regularly service the BKK to Hong Kong route but I prefer to depart BKK and arrive in Hong Kong during the daytime. I think the flights you purchase in Bangkok will be much cheaper than what you pay from outside the country. Generally you can sign up for a flight a day or two before you want to go, but this is "high season!" Many travel agencies post the price of flights to various places on their doors or windows. I have purchased several flights out of Bangkok without any problems. December is one of the highest priced times of the year to purchase tickets. |
As SirH said China Airlines can be cheap, on 12th Dec including taxes is B 5,815 ( something like US$ 173 ) that is offered on flight dep BKK 1445 arr 1830 ( 1 hr time difference )
Retruns are not that much more than the o/ways That's from thaifly.com You can also ask SEAtours http://www.seatoursthai.com/seatour....erence=contact |
Eddy at Seatours has helped many - they are Amex appointed Travel Agents, I've used for years, fine.
aniwat AT seatoursthai.com ( change so it does not go as link, change AT to @ ) |
You can also try www.traveller2000.com. Type in a search for BKK-HKG flights and you will get a list of airlines, costs and restrictions for that route.
They can be as low as B5300 on Air India to B19000 on Thai Air. Other airlines listed include Cathay, China Air, Emirates, Gulf Air, Kenya Air, Malaysian Air, Royal Brunei, Sri Lankan Air and Philippine Air. I've never used this group. Only use them for seeing what costs look like for flights around Asia. |
Thanks so much for all of your replies.
I had used kayak.com which does not reflect the lower cost carriers. So, all of the input has been very helpful. I emailed seatours to see what they can do for me. The idea of flying to Macau sounds like a good idea also. Thanks again.... |
