Lemongrass is an old fave of mine. They have a smoky eggplant with yellow bean sauce that is fabulous. And I love their green Thai curries.

Kathie - that eggplants sounds great, and green curry is a favorite of mine.

I prefer La Monita or even Los Cabos over Sunrise, which is more "old school" Mexican, IMO.

Soul Food Mahanakorn is the 'it' place at the moment. Expect it to be crowded.

Forgot Bourbon Street in that area.

Lemoncillo at Soi 11 oso very nice..in-front of Grand President Hotel Tower 3..

Try out the food on Cafe 11 at level 1 Grand President hotel, Soi 11. Nice food..i love the fried rice and tomyam.. price is reasonable not too expensive..

I've been eating regularly at Tamarind Cafe for some years now. I like the mushroom loaf with the gravy that kind of has a meatloaf texture, as far as what I can remember of meatloaf, as I haven't eaten meat since 1976. LOL!

I went to Lemongrass, for the first time last year, although I stay at the serviced apartment building right across the street from it. It was well worth finally walking across the street to. A couple of my friends, here in L.A., have been eating there for so long until I can't even remember what decade they first started eating there. They love it.

Some of the others, on your list, I've heard of but haven't been to. Happy Travels!

Guenmai, when was the last time you ate at Tamarind? Was trying to find it the other day, and it doesn't seem to be open any more - or it moved and there's no indication of the new address on the web.

I tried Govinda instead. Really good vegetarian Italian food.

It had to have been in 2007. I didn't eat there in 2009 and I wasn't able to make it to Bangkok in 2008.

It's on the same street as the German deli and across from the L.A. restaurant, "Koi", I think it's called which I ate at some years ago. Tamarind Cafe would be on the east side of the street. Happy Travels!

Try the above link. The website information is confusing to me, but it seems as if a restaurant called, "Little Hanoi" is at the top level of Emporium Mall and is a Tamarind Cafe place.

from the website, it seems as if the Tamarind Cafe is moving, but the webpage is dated 2004-2008, I think it is. Up through 2007, I ate at it on Suk, Soi 20, so I don't know what the moving bit is about. It seems that is it were in the process of moving, then the webpage would have a more recent year. Go figure. Happy Travels!

Went to the Long Table for drinks and then the Vientiane Kitchen last night.

Wonderful view at the Long Table. Drinks were good. Staff a little smug and brisk, but I'd go again.

Nice folk dance and live band at the Vientiane Kitchen. Extensive menu. Be careful as the dishes are very spicy. Prices were very reasonable. Go only during the cool season as its a semi-outdoor environment.

Smugness in a Bangkok restaurant? Thanks for the warning! I come to Thailand to get away from smuggery.

Yeah, not often seen in BKK. Still, its a nice venue so don't let that stop you from going.

Went to Kuppa last night on soi 16. Great service. Varied International and Thai menu. Small selection of northern Thai dishes if you like things hot. Deserts were great.

Ate here a couple of nights ago. Its on Soi 19 just off Soi 55, Thong lor.

Garden is lovely. We had a fish dish that was out of this world. Nice selection of drinks. Seemed to be a good value for your money.

The middle eastern places over in the Soi 3 area are a personal fave for me...

Swampfox, have you thought about going to the Pickled Liver pub on soi 11 and telling Maeng that you are an internet friend of Carol's and have her cook something for you? Just about everyone loves their experience at the PL. I can't wait to get back there in December.
