Is it safe for a woman to sightsee alone in Bangkok?

My daughter did this past Christmas and was fine. She even went to Lumpini Park and caught the casino bus (was the only foreigner on the bus) to Poipet to get to Siem Reap in Cambodia. I must admit that at first I was concerned about her being on her own but she also traveled solo in Cambodia. Just take normal precautions that you would anywhere.

Sightsee, shop, eat... Bangkok is probably a safer city that wherever you live.
