Bangkok restaurants serving royal cusine
 

I love Thai cusine ..I even cook it.. papaya salad, Phad Thai and even red and green curry However I cannot take too much heat even with my aciphex .I saw a show about royal cuisine and how it differs because it utilizes less chili ..what are the places to eat where they specialize in it and are they expensive??

there are some that advertise royal cuisine, but unfortunately i do not know of any of them....i suspect if you stick to the western chain hotels you will find much less chili in the food and if you ask they may accomodate you....

lemon chicken is a favorite of mine...no chili usually

pad thai can be made without it...but that would be boring...

A number of places advertise that they specialize in Royal cuisine. I noticed in November that the Thara Tong at the Royal Orchid says it specializes in Royal Thai Cuisine. I've eaten there a number of times in the past, but didn't eat there this trip, and Gpanda had a not as good as usual meal there, so I don't know whether to recommend it.

I'd ask the conceirge at your hotel for recommendations.

Thanying Thai Restaurant off of Silom Road....Bangkok...not far from the Sri Marianmar Hindu Temple...a side street on the same side of Silom Rd. as the temple...but further down Silom Rd. I'm almost sure it's on the Nancy Chandler map. I used to eat regularly at the same restauarnt in Singapore and have eaten at the one here in Bangkok. I liked the one in Singapore the best, but the owner sold that one and opened Sabai Thai Restaurant(two thumbs WAY up) in Ngee Ann City shopping mall on Orchard Rd....in case you're ever in Singapore,too. I am almost positive that the Blue Elephant (the place where many go for cooking classes) is Royal Thai.

Oh, you're right - I'd forgotten about the Blue Elephant. They do advertise as having Royal Thai cuisine.

(By the way, hypatia, when I've had Royal Thai cuisine, it's been every bit as hot as non-royal cuisine...)

I dont think my Phad Thai is not boring with all the fishsauce and lime..

The show I saw featured the daughter of the cooks (promoting a cookbook) who prepared for the royal family for years and what she said was that Royal cuisine featured dishes that were not hot...
As many say here..you can ask about mild but not get it ..but sometimes it is a matter of health not personal taste as far as the chilis go
