Bangkok restaurants

I was really disappointed that Harmonique was not open when I was in Bangkok -- was really looking forward to eating there. I gather the owners often close around the holidays so they can travel themselves.

I already wrote about Bed Supper Club which was the high point of our dining this trip. Really terrific.

Our second best meal was at the recently redone Lord Jim at the Oriental. The new decor is absolutely fabulous -- gorgeous, creative. "sexy" and very "modern" without being cold. The food is also signficantly better than in the past. I had the best salmon I have ever had. Beautifully and creatively prepared. I highly recommend this restaurant now -- in the past I only recommended it for the buffet lunch.

Liked Dalat Indochine and had a pleasant lunch at Lemon Grass.

We loved the new restaurant at the Jim Thompson House. Decor is really lovely and the food was very good and surprisingly inexpensive.

Actually ate out less than in the past. Two cocktail parties for returning guests at the Oriental where they serve more than enough food for dinner meant there were two nights we did not go out -- or just had a snack later on. And then there was New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve both of which we also spent at the hotel.

We did manage to have our Peking Duck at China House -- an absolute must and one of the first things I do when I get to Bangkok. Only wish we had had time to do it twice!!!

Thanks for your reviews, gloria. Where is China House? I love Peking duck!

China House is in the Oriental -- actually the house across the driveway from the hotel. It's a lovely setting and has great Peking Duck as well as dim sum for lunch.

Thanks, gloria. I'll put it on my list for my next trip to Bangkok.

Is the restaurant at the Jim Thompson House a lunch recommendation, or dinner too?

We had lunch at the restaurant at the Jim Thompson House. The atmosphere would certainly be fine for dinner -- don't know if there is a different menu or not.

kathie--the dim sum at the china house is very good....its a great little shopping area as well....we love the thai home store, even thought everything is covered with dust...lim silversmiths are exceptional...

Kathie,
Off topic a little bit, had very nice peking duck at the Peking Restaurant in Jordan, Hong Kong when I was there last month.

At the ChinaHouse @ The Oriental, is the PekingDuck only for dinner, or is that available at lunchtime DimSum as well?

In think the duck is only available for dinner but I'm not sure.
