Bangkok restaurants
 

Hi, We are going to Bangkok soon and would love some advice on good Thai restaurants. Any advice on sights/places we must visit would be great too, thank you.

There are lots of threads about restaurants in Bangkok. I always enjoy Lana Thai at Face, Harmonique, Chote Chitr for the adventurous, there are great places to eat everywhere. Don't neglect the food courts in the big shopping centers - there is often good Thai food on offer for low prices.

As far as sights are concerned, there are dozens of threads listing the top sights in Bangkok. Do a bit of reading on the board.

Besides the food courts (find them in many malls) some supermarkets like Tops and Foodland have in store restaurants.

Foodland supermarket, on Sukhumvit Soi 5, is pretty popular for Asian and Western foods at a good price. Mini cooking lesson if you are close to the grill end of the counter. Better than you might think!

Just make sure you aren't sitting in a restaurant eating "authentic Thai" chinese food. Real Thai food is fabulous. Don't waste your time or money on chinese bastardizations!

Bridey, I think Mango is over-stating the issue. (Remember all of the nasty tailor posts yesterday? Those came from Mango 7's account.)

Thai food shows many influences, Chinese among them. There are plenty of Thai restaurants which are owned or operated by Thai/Chinese. At such places (and there are a great many) you'll find some dishes are more derivative from Chinese traditions, some that are more Thai. Harmonique, a well-loved place is owned by Chinese/Thai sisters, and they offer (for instance) steamed bread. They also offer some quintessentially Thai dishes.

Also, many places will lighten the spicing for you automatically as you are a farang. If you want spicier food, just ask, they will be glad to accommodate you. In the past, some first-time visitors to Thailand have complained of food being "dumbed down" without realizing that the restaurant was making the food less spicy out of consideration for them.

We very much loved Supatra by the river, great Grand Palace views and if you book ahead they will send their boat to fetch you!!!!

You both seem pretty dense. Why can't you put two and two together? I was parodying the "German" and altered his post to what he really was doing since he stated that he enjoyed the "extracurricular" activities in Bangkok (with a smily face). Either both of you are too old or just clueless and conservative.

Copying and pasting a spam post under your own user name is rather strange but to rewrite or amend the original spam post with your own words of sexual exploitation and then posting it under your name again is weird.
