Bangkok/Pattaya

My wife and I will spend part of our vacation this September/October in Bangkok. We have 5 nights in Bangkok and I am wondering if it would be better to spend only 3 nights there and 2 nights at another location such as Pattaya. We will be in Kuala Lumpur before Thailand and in Beijing afterward.

I have been to Bangkok once before, but somehow never managed to make it far from Soi Cowboy.

if you go too Pattaya your kind of going back into the frying pan.. but there are many intersting places too check out which are not called "the toy bar"

we enjoyed both places. in pattaya, we took a speed boat to a nearby island, ate seafood for lunch, and went parasailing. unfortunately, you don't get the beaches in bangkok.

if you have such limited time in thailand i would spend the whole time in bkk....pattaya is just another soi coyboy/patpong, so why waste time driving down there...

"I have been to Bangkok once before, but somehow never managed to make it far from Soi Cowboy."

I think it would best not to disclose this to your wife (unless of course you met her there).

You can just go another 20 minutes past Pattaya to Jomtien beach, go a little further around Sunset beach and you can find some nice beach places, but you are about 20 mins from pattaya if you need it.

I was thinking of Pattaya for a couple of reasons:

1) I think 5 nights in Bangkok is too much...perhaps this is not true?

2) I have 3 Marriott $100 bonus bucks and there is a Marriott in Pattaya
