Bangkok new airport

Just saw this article that says it will now open in January? Should I believe it? That's when I'm flying and I'd be a lot happier not having to use the new airport in the first few weeks of its being open.

Hmmm, this opens up a whole new "can of worms" for our February trip. I am glad I am flying Thai from the USA - you gotta think they would have the inside track. I look forward to your trip report of course. We will need to stay somewhere nearby our first night as we will fly to Siem Reap the next morning after we arrive - the Amari Airport is probably not a good option...

The new airport is nowhere near the old one. It's also farther from the city than the old onw. There will be at least one new hotel that is supposed to open very soon but I don't think it will be ready by January.

Of course, all of this could easily be delayed again -- I'm crossing my fingers that it will be.

I would not be surprised if it does not open in January. My last trip over, I sat next to an American engineer who was working on the baggage handling for the new BKK airport. He said it was at least a year away (that was in Feb of this year) so January 06 might be just a bit optimistic. Which newspaper or internet site had the date, Gloria?

NO...NO...No...Don't say January 06th. That's the day I'll be flying home from Bangkok during the Dec/Jan trip there. I'd hate to have to deal with a new airport! But, since things move slowly in Thailand....let's just keep our fingers, eyes, and toes crossed for a later opening. Happy Travels!
