Bangkok Marriott Resort to change ID

Effective during November, 2011 it has been announced (from Buckingham Palace) that the hotel will officially change to an Anantara hotel.

Substantial upgrading will be done (that means of course prices will rise again).

Karen and I are very disappointed from a Marriott viewpoint--loss of upgrades etc, but look forward to giving it a try. The management will remain with Minor Corp and thus changes from a service perspective should be minimal.

For us it has been a good run for about 15 years.

None of the other Marriotts are affected at this time, fyi.

we currently hold res for mid- October, so we will see if we keep them

I was fearing this news and most of the staff I spoke with there last month seemed to think this was to happen soon. I'm so sad. I truly LOVED that place and have stayed there on many occasions over the years. I guess my Platinum Marriott level will not get me any upgrades at the Anantara. Boo hoo. Bummer.

Time to upgrade to the Penn, Bob. ROS will not happen in my lifetime.

As I was curious I just went to the Marriott website and they are still giving room rates and offering awards (using Marriott points) through Jan 10 2012. I did not check on further out dates but maybe they will honor any advance bookings made now? Some of the offers were pre paid rates too without any refund if you cancelled, so perhaps they will still accept Marriott reservations.

Sue,

They are still under the same ownership and they are just switching "brand". This might be why they are honouring point redemption until Jan 2012.

My only concern is what will happen to Benihana!

Thanks Kalil for posting this. I think that they might honor Marriott bookings through a certain time period in 2012.

Was not planning on going back until 2013 but now may have to consider one last visit before the changeover.

Yes, a "good run".

Does the Anantara have a frequent guest program? If so, will they give you a status match?

JW Marriott, while not on the river, is a much nicer hotel, close to metro, posh shopping, etc. And there is a Marriott Vac Club nearby also.
