What markets do you recommend in Bangkok?
Have tried Chatuchuk, Patpong.
Will return to Chatuchuk but not Patpong.
Looking for something same, same but different.

I like Suanlum Night Bazaar, although I've not been for at least a year now.

I also like the area around Pratunam. There are markets inside in the air con and outside in the hustle and bustle of foot traffic! Prices are all negotiable. I just got back from Pratunam (I'm in BKK right now) and I never paid more than half of the asking price for any items.

Check out the soi (street) leading up to the Baiyoke Tower Hotel off Phetchaburi Road. There are lots of clothing vendors and hand bag and shoe discounters. Many of the street vendors get their goods here for resale elsewhere. This whole corner area is full of vendors and shops. Lots of street vendors on up to the First Hotel at 2 Phetchaburi Road.

This store is right next to this area of wholesalers.

On the opposite side of Phetchaburi Road, sort of kitty corner, is the Pathip Plaza, a huge computer and electronics mall.

Take a stroll down Sukhumvit Road early evening and see all of the street vendors and small shops. This is the lower number end from around Sukhumvit Soi 1 to Soi 19.

Got a gorgeous silk jacket there for about $10Au.
Is there a new store near Pratunam? We went Jan 2007, I have been told that there is but am not sure if we saw it or it is newer than that.

Sampaeng is an 'experience' more than a market. You won't find much there to interest you - to purchase - but it can be a fascinating walk. There are a lot of shops selling cheap junk, as well as very old establishments like Chinese pharmacies. Because it's so tightly packed, it can be very hot.

The soi up to the Baiyoke wouldn't have a name, just a number, and it might not be signed - a lot of streets in Bangkok aren't. The soi is between two 'malls' full of clothing shops across the street from the Platinum mall, which might be the new place you were thinking of.

Staying at IC or HI in just 3 weeks- how do we get to
Phetchaburi Road. The shops look like ones that my 15 yo daughter will really enjoy.

We've done MBK last 2 trips & would love to go somewhere else.

From those hotels, simply down past Gaysorn Plaza to Rajadamri Road, then turn right and walk up past Central World. Use one of the bridges in front of Central World to cross the road and keep walking, over the canal, to the next intersection. That's Petchburi Road. Turn left and walk down. Platinum Mall will be on your left. There's a bridge over Petchburi that connects Platinum to the markets on the other side.

Try Platinum first. It's less of a zoo and most of its shops are targeted at 15 year old girls. The problem will probably be getting her OUT of the mall.

she will love this mall...and its not too hard on your wallet

directly across the street there is another mall...maybe about 6-8 stories tall....both retail and wholesale....good buys there, especially shoes..

DON'T REMEMBER! But the Krung Thong Plaza was next to it. There are a couple sois that lead up to Baiyoke tower, both of them have street vendors, etc. But the soi leading directly off Phetchuri was the most promising!

Find the Panthip Plaza (Computer & Electronics Mall) and almost directly across Phetchaburi Road is the right area. This area is sort of a "mini garment" center.
