Bangkok-Location on the river question, city side or not

I currently have reservations at the Bangkok Marriott on the river. I am looking at sightseeing now and they say "pick up at Hotel - River, Bangkok or city side only." My question is: Is the Marriott on the "wrong" side of the river? Not the city side? I can also save over $100.00 right now if I move to the Royal Orchid Sheraton. Is the Sheraton on the city side? I appreciate any help. Thanks

The Royal Orchid Sheraton is on the city side. I've stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton. I think the Marriott is on the other side. I've never been to the Marriott. I can't figure out how far down the river it is as it's not on my maps. Happy Travels!

Marriott - wrong side
Sheraton - city side

many other considerations - do a search but also others will chime in for sure

that could be a problem....many tours do pick up at the marriott, but perhaps yours does not....

to save $100 per nite, even i, would stay at the sheraton...
its an ok hotel, but nothing really thai about it....it has decent access to the skytrain if you don't mind waiting up to 30 minutes for the hotel boat or can take the local public boat next door.. great views of the river from many rooms...
nice pool next door at the portugese embassy....good shopping right next door...

Bangkok Marriott is a really nice place. I've never stayed there, but I've taken the 20 minute (?) boat ride down the river to the resort several times. It's a pleasant boat ride.

That said, if you can save yourself some money, stay at the Royal Orchid. I've not stayed there either... but the location is on the city side of the river, so your tour should be willing to pick you up there.

I've stayed at the Peninsula and the Oriental along the river. They are probably priced higher than your two choices (although I think there are deals to be had, since fewer people are traveling right now). The Oriental is on the city side; the Peninsula is on the "other" side (but I prefer the Pen).

The ROS is on the city side. The Marriott is not, plus it's down the river about a 15-20 minute ferry ride. From the ROS, you can walk to several very good restaurants, plus River City mall. You can't walk anywhere decent from the M. Having said that the ROS is somewhat anonymous, while the M has some small Thai touches. Both have very good pools.

Thank you all for your responses. It looks like I may just change my plans. Panda and RHKKMK ( I think too) I shall be seeing you at the LA GTG, Saturday at the Thai place. I am looking forward to it.
