Bangkok last day tomorrow!

We have one day left in Bangkok. We have seen most of the major sites. floating markets are said to be touristy... We have a driver picking us up at 7am... Ayutthaya? Clueless here.
Trip has been wonderful and I promise a report upon return. Thanks to all!

Ayutthaya is amazing. Beautiful temples and definitely can be done in a daytrip from Bangkok. With a short amount of time, I think you'd want to focus on the most important sites. Here are my recommendations:

Wat Mahathat (old city center, historical park) - this is the first temple you come upon and the source of the famous Buddha face in tree.
Wat Si Sanphet (old city center) - triple stupa layout. best example of late Ayutthaya architecture, which influenced the temple designs of Bangkok
Wat Ratchaburana (old city center, historical park) - most famous, has beautiful architecture and early Ayutthaya paintings in the crypt (bring a flashlight)
Wat Surandaram (old city center) - excellent paintings!

If you have time and a car, here are a few others I enjoy:
Wat Maheyong (est of center) - notable for its stupa supported on the backs of elephants, a style that came from earlier temples in Sukhothai
Wat Phu Khao thong (northwest of center) - a Burmese-style stupa. Lovely and typically quiet with not many people around.

Enjoy!
