Bangkok Inside Out

What a great book recommendation. I'm enjoying my new copy very much. It has a publication date of 2005. It doesn't have any informatoin on the new subway system in BKK, but that is probably because it wasn't complete yet when the book went to the publisher for printing.

I love the layout... and A-Z type of book with lots of great photos and information that you don't find in the tour books. I love the photot for "Land of smiles"...LOL

If you've spent much time in BKK, you will really enjoy this book.

I got my copy a few days ago and also love it. Sometime doing a search on amazon provides some great books that I never would have heard of on my own and this was one of them.

The book I bought was called,"Time Out". I thought that that was the book you guys were talking about? Happy Travels!

www.asiabooks.com

has plenty of books about thailand.... BUT for some reason it dosnt have the book THAI way or is it THAI Style but as I said in another thead the cover looks like a SIMS software packege, anyways that book looks kind of like BANGKOK INSIDE OUT. with all the pics but it seems too have more text.. if you come too bkk you can checi it out. Both are about modern thai/bkk culture and hit just about same topics so buying a copy of both may be overkill.

I don't know who originally recommended it, but I'm following the crowd and ordering a copy - looks like a great book. Note that if you buy from one of the alternate sellers on Amazon, you can save about $11 (shipping included) off Amazon's $27.99 price.

Craig-- that's exactly what I did and saved a lot of money. Book is like new.

My favourite Thai book is Very Thai - everday popular culture, by Philip Cornwel-Smith and John Goss. Published by River Books, mine cost a staggering B950 in BKK, but so,so worth it if you ever wanted to have those pink tissues on every foodstall table explained, or what about blind bands, motorcycle taxi jackets, monk baskets/buckets, insect treats, red bull origins, day color themes (notice how candles colors are changed daily?)tattoo messages, poodle bushes and hundreds of other kwerky Thai curiosities you will always wonder about. I note, like most things, it's available from Amazon.

Okay, I just ordered both books from Amazon. Just what I needed more reading material. However, I've rarely been steered wrong by this forum. Blind Faith. Slightly more than 2300 Baht.

YA thats the one I'm talking about. VERY THAI. i was close I had "thai" correct.

Received my copy of Bangkok Inside Out, 2005 Edition yesterday and zipped through it in about an hour and a half - great read - lots of good insights into modern life in Bangkok.

I finished mine the other day and am now sharing it with one of our local Thailand "group" members. He's going to buy a couple of copies for stocking stuffers for Christmas for other "group" members. Great idea!

I should explain "group"... son was the first one to visit Thailand and then has gotten about 10 other people from right here in our small area to join him... everyone loves it and returns again and again. Often times, there are 4 to 6 of us there at the same time. Makes it lots of fun. Thus, our local "group."
