Bangkok in 4 days
My friend and I arrive in Bangkok late Monday night so will have a full day Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before leaving for Kathmandu on Satuday morning.
We are looking for suggestions on what to see in Bangkok and how to schedule these over the four days. Thanks, trailmind |
Guide books will cover most of the highlights, but if you've never been to BKK, you should see:
Grand Palace Wat Pho Chinatown Viranamek Palace Jim Thompson's House Suan Packard House Flower Market Khlong Tour Shopping It hasn't been mentioned recently on this forum, but BE AWARE of TOUTS at the major sights. They will tell you the sight is closed for a Buddhist holiday and then tell you they will arrange to have you taken to some sights that are open, e.g., Marble Wat, Golden Buddha. The tuk-tuk driver will end up taking you to a jeweler for a "visit". Just ignore these TOUTS. They get paid by the jeweler for delivering tourists. |
Calypso Cabaret in the Asia Hotel (on the skytrain). $25 for the 8 pm cocktail show. Female impoersonators- great show, casual attire, fun bring your camera. Buy tickets at the hotel a day or so before the show to get best seats.

gpanda has given you a good run down of the sites....you may be very tired on day one if coming from a long distance so factor that in...you may want to lay low that first day...but on day 2 go for it...organize your visits as it takes quite a while to get from one to another and tons of time can be lost...don't try to cram too much in or you will become discouraged....a skytrain pass might be a good thing for you 100 B per day for unlimited usage...ask at your hotel or get one at the office at the skytrain station

i would add sun luam nite market at the corner of rama IV and wireless roads as a good entertainment some evening...you can eat and drink beer there as well

Forgot to mention that you should get a two hour Thai massage your first day there. This will work out the jet lag kinks and ease your transition to Asia. Also, don't try to do everything on the list. Grab a guide book and pick those that interest you. The Grand Palace is the only MUST.

How long is the flight from LAX to BKK? It's been a while for me. We stopped in HongKong the last time.

Another great night activity is to go to the top of State Tower, to a marvelous place called Sky Bar. It is 64 floors up, and all outdoors. If you afraid of heights it might not be your cup of tea, but you won't find a better view of the entire city.!!!
Carol (you need to be dressed in nice casual attire, no clunky Doc Marten sandals) |
Carol,we would love to experience the Sky Bar but we are travelling with our kids and are not overly keen about leaving them with hotel baby sitting. Would it be frowned apon to go there with a 6 and 3yo for a quick drink? How do you get there from the Marriott Resort?
