I've stayed at the Majestic Grande numerous times. I agree that you don't want a room smaller than 40 sq meters (the smaller rooms have bathtub/shower combo, while the larger rooms have separate shower/bath. The buffet breakfast is average. I've never had dinner there (too many other good places to eat). The pool is small so if you're looking for a hotel with a good pool, this isn't it. The soundproofing isn't very good so if you're on a floor with a lot of people going in/out, you will here the doors slamming all the time. Location is great, situated between the Nana BTS and Ploenchit BTS (Starbucks and Haagen Daz ice cream on the way). Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Forgot to mention that taking a riverboat to actually go somewhere in Bangkok is a must-do, IMHO, if you don't mind the mild waves on the river. Taking the BTS to the end of the line at the river and hopping on a boat (and then walking a bit) is the best way to get to the Grand Palace.

We have no intention of canceling this trip because of the coup. Foreign travel always has some degree of risk associated with it and that is the price you pay to see and experience wonderful, interesting and "foreign" places and culture. Some of our best memories are of foreign countries where we've been out of our comfort zone (Egypt during the cartoon controversy of last year, and Turkey when a bomb went off at the entrance of a museum that we had just entered). Yes, we were out of our comfort zone for those moments, but the rest of both trips were wonderful experiences. And besides that, we have great stories to tell. Anyway, I look forward to out trip to Thailand and Cambodia. And if truth be told, from a personal safety perspective, I am much more concerned about the malaria carrying mosquitos in Cambodia than I am about the coup in Thailand.

Hello!I think also you should have a guide, because there are a lot of places to visit in Bangkok and you don't want to miss anything. It should be better going by a taxi or van. However it depend on your stay. I recommend Kai as your guide. She's licensed and very nice. Try to get her at [email protected]. She will exellently manage your trip and I'm sure that you certainly enjoy it.
