Bangkok Hotels on AMEX points
 

Hello,
My fiancee and I will be in Thailand for our honeymoon and will be in Bangkok for three nights. We have some points for our hotel stay there that we'd like to last for as many nights as possible- we have about 40,000 points.

That said, does anyone have any recommendations/advice about the following hotels?

20,000 points per night (Bangkok)
Swissôtel Le Concorde
Swissôtel Nai Lert Park

25,000 points per night
Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok

40,000 points per night
Four Seasons Bangkok

the hyatt is a super hotel...its almost next door to the 4 seasons....4 seasons has one of the most grand lobbies in bkk....and some of the best restaurants, esp. biscotti....

nei lert was a hilton until a few years ago....it is next door to the british embassy....it is now owned by the raffles group from singapore....we toured it last year and it is quite nice and has a lovely garden and big pool area....

i would add that you might look at the conrad if you can use points....near to american embassy....

for fewer points used i think you might be happy with nei lert...

Given the points required, I'd choose the Grand Hyatt. It is very convenient to the Skytrain. The Four Seasons is lovely, but I'm not sure it's worth the number of points.

I'm not sure how convenient the Swisshotels are to the skytrain, an important consideration, IMO.

Just want to correct you on some minor detail - the Nai Lert hotel was never owned by the Hilton or the Raffles, same as most of the other hotels around Bangkok. It is owned by a Thai family and the Hilton(and now the Raffles)operated the hotel for them on a profit sharing basis.

Nai Lert has undergone extensive renovation and the owner close inspect the hotel everyday. One of the very few hotels around where skanky working girls are "encouraged" to stay away.

If you only have 40,000 points I would go for the Nai Lert and stay for 2 nights.

i actually did not mean "one", i ment operated i guess....small point really....it was called hilton....

If you are a HiltonHonors member you can transfer Amex points to Hilton and stay at their hotels, too. Not sure how many points you need.

Location, location - as Kathie and other posters have stated above, choose the hotel that is best situated for what you want to do and then pick the one that costs the least number of points. Grand Hyatt Erawan and Four Seasons are both located in the central shopping area and are convenient to the sky train. As stated above, the Swissotel Nai Lert is in the embassy district and is a bit of a walk to the sky train. The Swissotel Le Concorde is quite a bit out of the way but right on the subway line - for tourists though, the sky train is more useful for getting around, except possibly for visiting the weekend market.

Personally I would see if that is the best way to use your points. You can usually get good prices at these hotels.

Havew you checked to see if your AMEX points can be switched to Starwood points? If they can, you can get much better points deals at the Sheartons and Meridiens in BKK. For example, the Royal Orchid Sheraton is 3-4,000 points per night.

Keep in mind that AMEX points and starwood points are not 1 for 1.

I think it's something like 3.33 AMEX points=1 SPG point. Still, it's probably a better deal.

i agree, it is two point to get one point i think, but check it out...

ROS is not the most thai of hotels but if you get it for free then it is worth it, AND ITS ON THE RIVER WHICH IS A BIG PLUS.....

lower points needed for weekend stays at ROS...

We always stay at the ROS. It is very conveniently located and free with Starwood points. If you stay there, note that there are three very good restaurants within easy walking distance, Gallery Cafe, Harmonique and Tongue Thai.

Of course my first choice is the Four Seasons... my Bangkok favorite... and where I've stayed for many years. The skytrain station...Rajadamri...is across the street. Next to the Four Seasons, going away from the skytrain station, is the Hyatt. The Neilert Park is nice, but a bit of a walk from the skytrain station and I've always found it a long wait to get a taxi there as I shop at the mini mall on the same land as the hotel. And the Le Concorde is the only one I don't know. Definitely take the Four Seasons. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel, is down-to-earth and has a great, friendly staff. And the location is prime...in the heart of shopping. Happy Honeymoon. Happy Travels!
