I am going to be in Bangkok on Business and am wondering what's a good hotel to stay at. Something new, conveniently located?

There's plenty posted on this board, but it seems the place to stay is The Peninsula, rated top hotel in Asia and deserving as such, also very good prices.

Do a search for The Peninsula and see the wonderful comments.

While it is on the opposite (west) side of the river, consider this if your business will mostly be on the east side of BKK - traffic is a horror especially at rush-hour, but you can always take the ferry across the river - less than 2-minutes.

The "old" Le Royal Meridien is now the Intercontinental. I've stayed here and it is a lovely hotel and in an excellent location!! Granted, you won't have the river view, but you will be in the heart of things as far as shopping and entertainment in BKK. The hotel is right along the sky train route, which makes it very convenient for getting around to a lot of other places!

The newest hotels are The Davis and the Metropolitan both opened last month. The Davis is in Sukhumvit area and the Metropolitan (sister concern of the London one) in Sathorn. Depending on where your work is both conv. You could also consider the Sukhothai.

Conrad, Conrad, Conrad.....

Great business hotel. Great Executive Lounge, food, drinks, free hi-speed internet.

It's located in the Embassy row area. I tried the Pen, and I will take the Hilton Conrad anyday. It's new(about 1-2 years old, so it has not made any lists yet, but I will be surprised if it does not next year.


Also, great lobby lounge with music and the "beautiful" people hanging out in the evening. Great nightclub and outstanding restaurants, especially the Japanese place on the second floor(can't remember the name).

i think it largely depends on where you are going to be doing your "business"..there are some great places on the river: peninsula, shangra-la, oriental and sheraton (ugh) and there are places around sukumvit: jw marriott, conrad (new last fall or winter), regent, hyatt; and along silom/sathorn area: sukuthoi, evergreen

i prefer the peninsula myself but i am never on business...i also prefer the river but it could be a pain if you have to be in other areas..

having a driver is nice, which you may have on business, but it does not make moving about any easier...your location is much more important....it can take an hour in a car to go from one place to the next if traffic is heavy on that day so location is your key....

OK.. so where will you be doing business???. as you see there are plenty of choices scattared all over the central city..

As orgy7 has said, it depends which part of the city, if you are visiting a partner office/client/agent find a hotel that is close to their offices, this makes going to/from the office easy in the traffic. So choose a place close to them or see if they have corporate deals with any nearby hotel, most companies do.

We had a PERFECT experience at The Oriental. I found The Peninsula to be a little cold but a lot of people love it - maybe we were there on an off day. In any event, The Orintal is in a great location, great staff, great food, etc.

The Oriental...it's a once in a lifetime experience to stay there. If the Peninsula is anything like the one in Hong Kong, that would be my second choice.
