Which luxury hotel has the best pool in Bangkok ?
I keep hearing about how cold the water is in all Bangkok hotel pools which freak me out.
Is that true ?
we will be having a 3 day R & R stay in Bangkok in mid-april after a long journey and want to stay put in a luxury hotel using their restaurants- pool and have no desire to go out much unlesss necessary so which hotel would you recommend ?

I think the Royal Orchid Sheraton has the nicest pool. It has a lap pool close to the river, but it has a lovely, free-form pool in a shaded garden next to the hotel. Many people like the pool area at teh Marriott on the river, but I find it too busy and public, you wank through the pool area between the hotel and the dock for the shuttle boat. It does have shady areas, though.

The pool at the Sheraton is not too cold. I have to admit I've not experienced the cold pools in Bangkok that some people complain about.

If you opt for the Royal Orchid Sheraton, I'd recommend you stay in the Towers... free breakfast and evening drinks and canapes and desserts in the club, plus some free laundry each day.

If you get bored, there is a shopping center next door.

kathie is right the ROS pool is nice, but i find getting to it with the huge flight of stairs and longish walk not the best...

i do think the marriott pool is slightly better in that respect. it is a busy pool, but not because people are walking through the area, although some do, but there are other quicker ways to enter the hotel from the river...

chatrium also has a lovely pool, as does the peninsula, but water is slightly cooler in both of these...

hilton has a nice different pool but i have no idea of the temp...

i was at both marriott and ROS in novmeber... ROS water was just fine but marriott was slightly warmer... in april i should think they all would be warm if they catch the sun at all... some hotels do cool the water...

you mean the pools do not catch sun ?
I did not know that there was a ''sun '' problem in Bangkok hotel pools.

Agree that the Marriott pool is not the most relaxing of places ... tends to attract more families/children than some other spots.

While I don't tend to spend heaps of time at pools, I was impressed favorably by the pool at the Grand Hyatt downtown. They copletely redid their pool and spa 3-4 years ago, and the result is excellent. Lots of room, good locker/changing facility, and a fine poolside bar/snack area. Lots of restaurants available without having to go outside the hotel.

The Marriott Resort and Spa pool is very nice. Lots of lounge chairs with umbrellas. Pool bar, outdoor spa.

We loved the pool at the Marriott Resort and Spa, and it's definitely the kind of place you don't have to leave much....

The Hyatt pool is salt water, as is the pool at the Patumwan Princess on top of MBK. I prefer them over the others.

They all have great pools with shaded areas including the Royal Orchid Sheraton.

some of the pools listed above are quite small and some have very small seating areas...

i agree that all those hotels have great pool.. you also can look into Legacy Suites Hotel at Sukhumvit 22. the location is peaceful and it has a nice pool at the ground floor.. and i also heard that President Palace Hotel at Sukhumvit 11 has the biggest pool in the area(soi11)

Is it just me, but doesn't the water in mny BKK pools seem colder/cooler than you would expect for the tropical location?

Believe me, in April you will be glad of the pool regardless!

For the last six days we have spent a couple of hours each day by the Marriott (Riverside) Pool. It has not been busy and loungers are always available. Don't get chairs near the kiddie pool if you want quiet. What we like is that dh needs shade and I like sun and we have always been able to be next to each other, on really comfy loungers and had our shade and sun. Water temp is great. Also, if you want a place you don't want to leave there are 10 eating/drinking options on site.

And, Kathy, my being from England, I squealed with laughter when I read that you were wanking in the pool. Hope that doesn't catch on here, think it'd be rather unpleasant to be relaxing poolside and all that going on!

Highly subjective, to be sure, but will most kindly suggest four all-time cherished Bangkok business (and occasional pleasure) travel hotels, with rather acceptable pools:

Four Seasons - my first 'official' Bangkok work hotel, back when she was still known as The Regent; fine lap pool and staff -- perhaps a certain 'ekscrunchy' will concur.

Mandarin Oriental - not the greatest of lap pools, but throw in the entire package, and, well (as of a few weeks back), she's the Mandarin Oriental. (Pronounced sentimental reasons, to be sure.)

Peninsula - not even close to having a proper lap pool, but a rather shameless plug for some fine Pen friends and employees, a magnificently discreet hotel, and should you be with a loved one, enjoy your tender times, poolside.

Shangri-La, Krungthep Wing - my current (along with the SGS) main BKK work hotel and her lap pool is so sweet. Swim at dawn, then off to work via rather convenient public transport. And, those on-going, 24-hour, in-house, in-room massage treatments with kind and gracious masseuses - no complaints from me. (But, as of a few days back, would kindly suggest avoiding Room 965 for the foreseeable future; nothing sordid mind you, rather, noise, 'from above'.)

(Would comment on the lovely Sukhothai and her lovely pool, but haven't stayed at that property since '09, so any comments, rather antique.)

Wherever you plunge, have fun, and don't forget to really do it right and fly in/out BKK, J, with those Girls.

I would recommend President Solitaire which is along soi 11, amazing pool, 5* Hotel with other great facilities and great location.
Might not be that luxury but you can check out Admiral Premier Hotel their roof top outdoor swimming pool is recommended
