Where do you live, Guenmai? I agree that the Western food (and drink) at the Royal Orchid is quite good-they have a Thai restaurant there also, but I've not tried it. Also, if you like shopping, what about the River City mall, which is adjacent to the Royal Orchid? I love to go there and check out the Qing Dynasty antiques and Tibetan chests (I actually collect this type of furniture)-they have some really great shops for antiques there.

Airlawgirl-I live in L.A. County. As for the River City Mall, I love it. I always go there. But, I also like the other malls like the mall at Siam Square where I can buy those gorgeous modern-Thai bronze vases by Sakul Intakul...probably the most well-known florist in Bangkok. He does amazing stuff. He does the floral arrangements for the Sukothai Hotel and Celadon restaurant. His hardback book is absoultely beautiful. Sakulflowers.com for those interested.Plus, I like the malls like Grayson and Emporio that sell some nice, modern-Thai home interior design items. But, yesterday, I made a reservation for both the Royal Orchid and the Four Seasons. I'll split my stay...4 days at each place...starting with the Royal Orchid where I can rest and shop at the River City mall next door and not have to deal with the transportation to get to the other side of town to shop. I'll just do the hard-core shopping when I move over to the Four Seasons. The mall next to the Erawan shrine has a fabric store that has fabulous pieces of fabric...thousands of pieces and quite reasonable. I found pieces in there that I couldn't find other places.
